Truth is, Marrone needs to start winning ball games and I'm sure everyone can agree on that. The whole comparing to GROB and dissecting why the program sucks is exactly the reason people hate psychiatrists. There is way too much analysis on this crap, and is culminating in nothing but people yelling at each other. How many years has the board been comparing GROB and Marrone? It kind of gets old after fifteen threads saying the same things with the same people saying those things being created in one day. I sure as heck hope no recruits or their parents read this board because even I'm second guessing whether going to SU was a good idea or not seeing all this crap lol this place looks like a bunch of conservatives and liberals were locked in a room together arguing over pointless crap like abortion and gay marriage.

Sort of agree.

But two things -- you don't want to close out a season with 5 losses (makes the fans hostile), and you might not want to close practices for 3 weeks (makes the fans hostile).

Ray of hope -- the scrimmage on Saturday is open to the public. Maybe a few folks will see that our LBs have grown up, we have a couple of RBs, the young linemen might contribute, a few DBs are healthy, Ashton Broyld may be raw but he is a beast.

People are making their own news since the football program decided to shut its doors to the public and media. What else are we supposed to talk about? Hopefully, after the spring scrimmage people will have something real to talk about instead of how hot the coach's seat is.

Cusestudent --- I share your frustration with many of these topics.

But I am reconciled to the fact that for many this is what makes sports interesting. So these comments are more about the people that write them then they are the reality of the SU footall team.

When frustrated with the teams performance, they want to throw their two cents in. Armed with stuff they learned from watching TV and listening to the color commentators and talking heads, they weigh in.

The solution is almost always "fire the coach" ... because that's the obvious fix. Who can be against it? He's the head coach and he's responsible so off with his head. It's very reminiscent of "The Queen of Hearts" or Redskin's owner Dan Snider School of Management theory.

Another favorite is "facilities". If only we had better facilities our problems would be solved, is said.. A popular suggestion, especially since its not their money. But there are plenty of schools with great facilities and woeful records. The University of MD comes to mind.

Boeheim is coming up on 900 wins. You probably aren't surprised to hear that he is what is holding SU back from winning more NC's according to some "experts" on here.

Let em go. It's what they do.

No offense but this kind of stuff happens on every single D1A message board outside of maybe Alabama. If this is making you reconsider going to SU you haven't been around D1 football much, this stuff is tame compared to other boards. Try hitting up WVU, RU, or an Sec teams board after a loss.

nuhh u

nuhh uhh we are "special"- every other program is happy happy joy joy-

Working 10 hour days staring at a computer screen this board is what keeps my sanity. Did you ever think you could run out of stuff to read/research online? I sure didn't before this job.

Agree or disagree I enjoy reading others opinions (if there is logic behind them). Once some real info gets out there about next years team we should see far fewer repeat threads.

I'm with you on your general point but if you think this is brutal, don't visit the Sons of Sam Horn red sox message board or any of the ND boards.

I've been a member on SoSH for 10 years.

SoSH has chunks of SyracuseFan.com in it's stool.

If Marrone's theory on closing practice holds true I see only one of two possible scenarios playing out on Saturday:

1) The players have improved so much that PTG looks exactly like Joe Morris and Ryan Nassib is better than Joe Montana.

Or, ...

2) There has been a vast amount of improvement but the 19 fans and two reporters in attendance in Rochester throw everything off, the players are completely distracted and don't remember their assignments and we look worse than we did last year.

Only those two possibilities?
Forecast over here is high 50s, sunny -- great football weather.
Looking for a lot of positives coming out of this event.
Cheers.

I was just kidding, playing off the whole "closed practice" controversy.

Yeah -- I knew that. Hoping some of that pent-up interest gets satisfied tomorrow in sunny Rochester. Coming out party for Ashton Broyld and -- I hope -- a WR or two.

The coaches seat is not hot. What better coach would take this job?

Like it or not, that's reality.

Marrone is the right coach. It takes time.

and more importantly, someone without the ties and passion for SU might move on as soon as the coach got credit for the turnaround and then we're right back at square one. "not my recurits", "need 3 to 5 years", blah, blah. Based on everything Marrone has said, he will not do this. Even it it takes an extra year, I'll trade off 15 to 20 years of coaching stability. I can only imagine the syracuse.com forum if he does leave after a few successful seasons.

Marrone could have left for other jobs already. Same with Schaeffer (who will likely leave to head back to the Midwest). The stability of the program and given where we are, Marrone is the right guy. That said, I don't agree with everything he does and the closing practice thing is frustrating.

But not concerned about his commitment to SU.
