The top four remain the same — but there is some big movement in the Week 2 Men’s DI Media Poll.

Ohio State jumped up into the Top 10 from being unranked. North Carolina, in turn, fell to No. 12. Syracuse stayed put after proving it could at least hang with the top team in the country. Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Jacksonville, Michigan and Princeton all made moves.

Rutgers, Yale and Duke all inch up in wake of North Carolina’s fall, with the Scarlet Knights into the top five.

Check out the full Men’s DI Media Poll here.

1. Maryland (20)
2. Virginia (4)
3. Georgetown
4. Notre Dame
5. Rutgers

9. Syracuse

15: SYRACUSE

#HHH shot location was sub-par to begin against Maryland. The defense was organized and seemed slow to slide to Terp dodgers, which was smart. Tucker Dordevic and Brendan Curry carry the lunch pail, the question becomes who else is elite?

I can’t remember an offense that was so dependent on two singular components. Dordevic has a wicked change of direction and is a two-handed threat. He was tremendous. Curry has straight line speed to draw slides. His shooting accuracy will be critical.

The rest of the offense just feeds off those two. Lucas Quinn did just that with a hat trick in the first 30 minutes. Cuse defense did a great job in the third quarter. Goalie Bobby Gavin caught fire. Down 9-8 entering the final stanza, the Orange couldn’t handle Maryland’s relentless pressure. SU played really hard. They fought. They never gave up. That’s encouraging for their fans and a positive sign for the new regime.

SU is at UVA on Saturday (noon ACCN).

its gonna be a few games to get a real read on the Ivies. Some of them might take pretty big jumps in play once they play a few games and the young kids get acclimated.

Hopkins at 9???
Only 2 ACC in the top ten.

12. Syracuse Tucker Dordevic (5G, 1A) controlled the offense and Lucas Quinn shot 3-of-7, but beyond that the Orange struggled to produce offense. That to me that was the difference in the game. Maryland consistently got good shots — Syracuse, by and large, struggled to manufacture good looks. They got a really good day from face-off specialist Jakob Phaup (15-of-28, 12 GB; if you’re interested in learning more about the dynamic among the close-knit community of face-off specialists, I highly recommend checking out Alex Schoen’s story about Phaup, Luke Wierman and Gavin Tygh, who are all from Philadelphia) and a nice showing from goalie Bobby Gavin (11 saves).

I can’t drop the Orange for a four-goal loss to Maryland because I was too impressed by their resiliency, turning a 5-0 deficit into trailing by one goal at halftime, then a three-goal third quarter deficit to again trailing by one with 15 minutes to go. When they played with the urgency provided by a low clock, they were much more effective. How to stretch that lesson out to 60 minutes? That’ll be the test for their trip to Charlottesville on Saturday.

Hopkins did beat Jacksonville who beat Duke. I don't that I would rank them that way. Quint likes to have teams jump around in his rankings.

The old transitive property.

A little surprised UMBC didn't get more votes in the Coaches' Poll, 7, after solidly beating Drexel 12-8. Meanwhile. Hobart who got lucky barely beating Lehigh gets 39 votes.

They started the season in the 15-19 range and are 3-1 with their only loss to the #3 team. It makes sense that they'd creep up as other teams that started ahead of them have either worse losses or less impressive wins (Lehigh, Bryant, UNC, Loyola, Drexel, High Point, etc.).

Both Quint's and Foy's analysis of Syracuse seem pretty fair to me. Just outside the top 10 is where I'd have them for now. Big opportunity to change that this weekend.

Drexel was getting demolished in their preseason scrimmages. There's a decent chance they stink this year. The CAA is in for a rough season

Not quite sure what to make of Seebold after Sunday's outing. He was primarily covered by a shortie if I remember correctly and couldn't get much going on the dodge or feed. Reminded me a bit of pre 2020 Seebold,,,running into traffic and really a non factor. We need to get him going given deficit at attack. Along those lines, where is the new and improved Cook the coaches talked about ?

No concerns about Seebold, he was covered primarily by Makar and other top pole and drew alot of attention when ball in stick. He had a sweet wraparound that was stuffed by goalie and hit a pipe off a lefty laser . Just missed a pass inside from Quinn that would have been a goal. He's going to have a big season.
