3. Syracuse

Duke and Syracuse combined for 31 goals and 93 shots. A frenetic first 45 minutes featured fantastic finishes and flair, and the 16-15 Dome victory has the Orange at 9-2. This was not a goalie-friendly game. Jimmy McCool made four saves in the fourth quarter to keep Duke quiet.

The playmaking was unreal. The shooting was nasty. SU was down by one at half and used a three-goal run to grab control in the third quarter. Both teams staggered to the finish line, exhausted from the non-stop tempo. Payton Anderson had a career day with five points. Joey Spallina was in his element, chipping in six points, showcasing his vast array of skills and managing situations with the instincts of a chess master. Luke Rhoa buried a couple of righty bombs from range on the power play as Duke didn’t respect his missile range. The Orange showed poise and discipline in a sloppy fourth quarter when both teams were staggering with wobbly legs. Fatigue makes cowards of us all.

The Orange are building a legit résumé. They are at North Carolina on Saturday at 2 p.m. on ESPNU.

Since they've never been #1 before, I'd say never.
Richmond was a club program until 2014 when they joined D1 as a new team. I remember my son talking with them and I hadn't heard of them let alone the "Spiders" name. They are quite the story.

well be fair psu did whip cornell n yale n princeton. Also beat maryland n ohio state. Besides cuse psu prob has second best wins out of the teams. They have looked very good since those two early season loses. They had chance to beat unc in my eyes. They’re a very solid team. With duke failing to win their only first tough comp (doesn’t matter if lost by 1 or not still lost). Not strong schedule tho will ramp up now for duke. Seems like polls continue to flip flop on how they judge using eye test record n teams beaten. But can’t say psu isn’t solid team n holds better wins then duke.

This feels like lacrosse.

3 of the top five are ACC
4 of the top 10 are ACC
All five are top 15!

Three conferences a count for 15 of the top 20 teams in men's lacrosse. I know it will not survive the conference portion of every team's schedule, but cool to see.

Sad that Quint discusses Syracuse without calling us Otto or referencing HHH.

They have a nice little stadium as well. Saw them play Brown last year, about this time, when my son and I were in town for the Jefferson Cup soccer showcase. Good environment. Fans knew their stuff and the campus as a whole was beautiful. Richmond has a surprisingly good food scene as well.
