Pool of potenial 8-9 teams and 4/5's

While things can and will change a bit in the next few weeks, looking at this from ESPN, it appears even at this point, we know which one of the 10 or so teams we'll get in the 2nd round (the 7s-10s). Take out UConn, Cincy, and you're down to about 14 already.

33-Iowa State 34-Kansas State 35-Southern Miss 36-Saint Louis

So, we have:

1) A mid-level big conf team (purdue, Va, KSU, ISU, Cal*)
2)Top dog from lower level - (Memphis, SLU, St. Mary, Gonzaga).

Just a feeling but with the move to the ACC, I can see, for matchup purposes, getting VA in the 8/9.


Then strange part of college hoops, with the parity today, is that I'm just as impressed with Va, Iowa St, KSt, etc, as I am with the potenial 4 and 5's from the S curve below. Would there be a pt spread difference if we played Iowa St./KSt, compared to say Wich St, Temple, or UNLV? I doubt it.

For some reason as of two weeks ago I've had this feeling we will be seeing UVA. Your analysis makes my random premonition seem practical. Perfect team to test our zone. Lot of good shooters and slow down offense.

I still remember sitting in the arena in Buffalo 2 years ago watching Florida State play Gonzaga before we played Vermont. GothamCuse and I were bantering back and forth on who we wanted to play. I wanted Florida State because they were such a bad offensive team, yet a pretty solid defensive team and he wanted Gonzaga because he thought based their style of play we would run them ut of the gym.

Well 2 nights later as we went up by 30 he said "I told you we wanted Gonzaga."

As long as we don't get 3 teams in the 8-9 game I will be happy Gonzaga, Kansas State or Vanderbilt. Those are about the 3 only teams in that range that would scare me with that said I truly believe we will be fine till the Elite 8 and there is only 2 Elite 8 games that scare me Duke or North Carolina because Mizzou/Kansas, Michigan State will be in St. Louis

I can see that happening. We are going to get Duke, UNC or Mizzou.

If Duke got shipped out West with Mizzou most likely their 2 seed wouldn't UNC want Atlanta over Boston due to location? I could see the committee putting UNC as the #2 seed in the South and giving SU either Ohio State or Baylor in the East? My ideal draw is Duke ending up a 1 seed and North Carolina as the 2 seed in the South and you can give SU any other 2 seed and I am happy.

I wanted florida st too. I also wanted marquette last year over xavier. So this year, whichever team i hope we face, i hope the other team wins.
