Eight penalties for 90 yards, including crucial holding calls on big gains and late hit calls.

Three turnovers - one deep in the redzone when the team was about to score.

Two more fumbles in the redzone.

And finally a terrible pass that almost went for a pick six.

That's right. I'm not talking about Syracuse University - I'm talking about the Bearcats' performance in Nippert Stadium on a cold, wet day.

They made mistake after mistake. That means of course - if you believe the stuff you read on this board - that they were badly coached or using the vernacular "they were not coached up" yesterday.

Yet they won the game.

Why?

They took advantage of SU's mistakes while SU failed to take full advantage of their mistakes.

And, they dominated much of the play - especially on the offensive line.

They had the ball nearly 34 minutes - they rushed the ball for 263 yards - they were 7 for 15 on third down.

We were 9 for 21 on third down. We could not stop the run. We failed to take advantage of their mistakes - the dropped pick six and the dropped a TD in the endzone by West.

Using the criteria set forth on this board both teams were poorly coached yesterday, meaning that coaching didn't cause the outcome.

Cincy was the better team on the field yesterday.

We are getting better. We are experiencing difficult growing pains but things will continue to get better and sooner rather than later. Hang in there!

one thing cincy has its 2-3 players that turn mistakes into bigger plays. there were multiple runs of decent yardage just because Winn and others are harder to tackle than our "play makers" . Much like Smiths big run went for 30 and not a TD.

Good post. They beat us in the trenches and they beat us on Special teams. Take back the block and the missed fg and take back the Kobena fumble and we have a different game. So all things being equal Specials cost us another game.

Capitalizing on the opposing team's mistakes is missing right now for sure. It wasn't too long ago that I recall the offense being so happy with a scoring drive that they would relax and lose effectiveness on several subsequent drives. They have come a long way, but they have a ways to go. They don't need to go out and make big hits or flashy cuts with the ball, they just need to play with the attitude that they are going to make the other team pay for their mistakes, score points on them, and win.

didn't Cinci run for about the season avg against us? didnt we run for about twice what they allow? so who won in the trenches? we handled the RB running ok we played poorly on the QB runs when the backup came in and that was the real killer.

they beat us on a fake 4th down play, we missed 2 fg's but we also blocked a kick that went forward 35 yards.

Winn had 163 yards rushing.

That's handling the RB okay?

Wales dropped a TD.
West dropped a TD.
Sales had a first down called back due to a penalty.
PTG missed a block which caused Nassib to get blindsided and fumble.

We missed about a dozen tackles.
We got suckered on a trick play.
Reddish failed to take advantage of an opportunity.

How can you blame the loss strictly on ST's?

well he was avg 6 and he avg 5.5, he went for 125 against UL last week, and most of it came late in the game. had we not blown so many chances he never even gets the carries and we are happy with holding him to 75. really the last 50 yards all came because we were over playing the run game with blitzes and backside contain was poor on the cut back.

Are they harder to tackle or is our team poor tacklers? I think Winn and Abernathy are good but maybe it's a little more on us. The kid from Rutgers is decent and he was shut down. I completely agree though that we don't have that player who can cut back against the grain and take it to the house. I think next year broyld, funderburke, and maybe Morris or McFarlane may have that in them.

OrangePA - my thoughts exactly - its like we are missing the attitude of winners that take advantage of mistakes, maybe its the curse of the BE - watched the Pitt game and they really worked hard to lose that game with ND. They remind me of SU.

This is a crock of s*&^ ... you do realize we had more total yards ... real great indicator of being dominated on the line of scrimmage ... please just get over it.
