Averaging 20 and 11 and just a really active player. Saw him live at Seton Hall last year and he was a beast. I think maybe this might be a three headed monster approach (try to wear him down with combo of Fab, Baye and Rak). But more than likely he will get his and we'll try and shut everyone else down...

Pope is a monster this year ... and he is big. He's got muscles on muscles. He will be a hand full for our bigs ... definitely have to double him up and that will be a problem for our wings. I know some posters are saying the spread is going to be double figures ... but I doubt it.

I think key will be to limit his entry passes, and hustle on rebounds to limit second chances. He can't score if he doesn't get the ball.

This could be the best Seton Hall team in a long time. I expect it to be a tough game, but the biggest things I take from the first thirteen games is our great defensive pressure, our ability to score a lot of points quickly and our greatest depth of any team in the country.

Pope is going to need a lot of help to beat us, but like you say, it will be a nice test for our centers.

The guy has amazing stats for somebody who can't be more than 5' 6".

I think we're going a little overboard with how good seton hall and herb pope is. People are talking about him like hes shaq in his prime. Id much rather let herb pope try to beat us by himself than have them burying 3 after 3 like they did last year.

I agree..

Like I said he will probably get his, and we will need to shut everyone else down. Where he will hurt us is on the boards and with put backs. But I don't think the rest of the team is good enough to beat us especially at home. We are better at virtually every position apart from Pope. Like you said if we shut down their threes we should be fine.

Like the original poster Mark79 said, it'll be a good test for our centers.

Pope is infallable

He'd be great in the middle of our zone. Look at that wingspan! And he always keeps his hands up on defense.

And he will receive total consciousness, so he's got that going for him, which is nice...

Pope is first team all-BE and potential All-American.
Not a surprise.
But Seton Hall doesn't have Jeremy Hazell to open up the floor.
We just need to play our game..including the suffocating defense.
Pope will get his numbers...but we need to make him work for it.

And anyone else find it odd that Hazell went undrafted by the NBA couldn't stick anywhere...even in Europe?
Makes it seem as if he has some big problem because he had huge talent.

Huge talent? The guy took 40 shots a game, and didn't do much besides score. He was a nice player but not an NBA talent.

The distance of the threes last year was amazing. Several were a good two or three feet behind the line.

Didn't he hit one like a foot from the edge of the block S? Had to be 35 feet out.

I agree with Col., without Hazell the defense can collapse more and prevent entry passes ... at least that's what I hope happens. Let's see how many charge Fab can get against Pope, hopefully Fab will be in the better position against him.

Fab getting a couple of charge calls would be huge.. He is certainly getting very good at positioning. It has become a real strength.

Only 7'0" with the hat.
It's called a mitre. The Pope is listed at 7'0" with the mitre. He's actually 7'3".
Controls the paint, can go up soft with either hand.
Terrific with helpside defense.

I think Christmas transcends the Pope.
