Practice Closure Temporary

"It’s not that I worry about people coming in and seeing what we’re doing, I was worried about people saying, this is what they are and who they are. I’m trying to develop exactly where we want to be from a system standpoint before other people come in and say who we are." he said.

Seriously?

The boogie man is coming with his video camera doug...

he's up in the stands watching you doug...

he's going to post your practices out on the internet's doug...

He's sending the video to USC and Missouri doug...

I don't mind this even though I prefer that practices be open. I'd rather the coaches have the freedom to look at different schemes behind closed doors for a few practices without outside opinions which sometimes affect the players. They can decide who they are quickly and then put it on display. I just hope they actually do make some changes.

I agree with the comment about practices being closed. They should be. Why do you need fans at practices?

However, they should have never promised to open practice. Every time there are changes like this, it gives me an impression of an unorganized program. Its only a story because he took them away. Don't promise them next time.

Good for Doug, I'm glad practices are closed.

For all the people pissing and moaning and thinking DM is paranoid how many of you actually go watch a practice?

If there's 20 people in attendance then WGAF that practices are closed? If Doug doesn't want the media reporting changes in scheme or injuries or who looks great then so be it.

I go to the one family funzone practice a year...and that's it. But I do depend on OE and Tomcat's daily "yellow-barrel" updates during the spring and fall practice seasons.

We haven't seen these guys since the meltdown. I personally would like an update on where they stand. At the very least, it'd be nice to have an occasional post-practice HCDM update on SU Athletics.

The fourth-year head coach changed his mind this week, closing Saturday's session as well. While he wouldn't put a day on it, Marrone said he likely would let the media and public watch starting some time next week.

So, maybe Tuesday, maybe Thursday. Not the end of the world.

I've only missed 2-3 practices in the past 3 years (and 1 of them was for an SU LAX game).

Surprisingly ... Giants practices in Albany are always packed, and I suppose the Tebow circus in Cortland will be popular this Summer.

People just want to read about the team. It's understandable, and the program should be happy that people are interested enough to get upset (not that I've seen people getting all that upset).

Having said that, as I said a minute ago, I agree with you that we need to do what we need to do. Winning team comes first, everything else second.

When did they promise open practice? Also, if they have one open practice in rochester, technically practice was open.

He's worried that if the press says they look bad the players will believe they are bad, even if they really are bad at this stage ?

Not that I care about open practices or have the ability to attend. For those that have the free time to attend... I'm envious... Not for being able to attend a practice (insert Allen Iverson sound bite here)... But, that you have so much free time!

Anyway... Is Doug starting to feel some pressure?

Just befuddling communication (or lackethereof considering no signing day event).

Maybe his father-in-law called an audible.

I'm a little disappointed we made it this far in this thread without getting Mr Iverson's thoughts!

I want to watch as much as anybody, but I have to defer to Coach Marrone.

If he wants to close practice, fine with me.

And he can give any reason he wants.

I actually don't disagree. But the seeming inconsistency or lack of clarity of how the program sometimes operates portrays a less than strong leadership aspect.

Much ado about nothing...let him practice them in secrecy.

I prefer wins in the Fall over detailed posts in the Spring.

Who doesn't? Just would like to see one lead to the other.

I suppose I'd care more one way or the other if I lived in Syracuse.

No doubt Mark, but do you really feel they are mutually exclusive??

Well I hope his plan works...whatever it is. Every season is different and my opine is he wants a few practices to try some new schemes to see if the personnel can handle it. He doesn't want reports out there saying the kids are having issues adapting.
