Because ego and oral agreements with quarterbacks prevent smart people from making smart decisions at the appropriate time - maybe it will be after Clemson, maybe when Allen gets picked off 3 or 4 times vs NC State and we lose a game we should on paper win and then panic sets in. I just don't think the move to C will be now, when it should be. I think they let Allen look decent against our cupcake opponents to fulfill the before mentioned ego and oral agreement requirements. We shall see I hope I am wrong. I am no expert but Allen reminds me of a hundred other quarterbacks who have the pedigree and the right build, but throw a pick or two for every beautiful confidence inspiring long completion they manage to pull off - just looks to me like the stuff that is 'wrong' with him was never corrected at his former school where he became a forgotten player and we don't have time to wait for him to fix it. If you go with Hunt it can't be worse, and you are building on something for next year. Plus the uncertainty he creates for the defense lets us get the ball to Estime and Broyld - something that will be very quickly shut down if the seemingly one dimensional Allen is our guy and funderburke doesn't step up. I see this p playing out in this way because I think that Shafer is at is core a nice guy and wants to let his OC/assistant head coach prove himself and validate his decisions (Allen and the offense switch). I think the OC is implementing a new offense because he wants to be 'his own man', doesn't want to be seen as inheriting a system that worked and just running that because then he doesn't get full credit which from a career perspective makes sense - the problem is the old system worked, everyone knows it including Hunt, and you can use our new 'weapons' within that system. Shafer should have said look, I am giving you a big shot here with this job, nail it on recruiting and spend all the rest of your time learning the ins and outs of what worked last year so we can replicate it, and then think about how we can tweak it and make it better with a quarterback who can run. I think Allen's email looking to join the team threw a big 6'4" wrench in the works. I also think that we will keep our recruiting class which is starting to look pretty good and that we will get this figured out by the end of the season and have a lot to look forward to. Just my relatively uninformed opinion...
