Yards per play is a good way to measure offense or defense in isolation because more plays can make you look better on defense, vice versa

but yards per game works fine when combining the two.

Fresno (3 wins), hawaii (3 wins), Oregon St (2), North Texas (1), UCF (0) and Kansas (0) are the only teams worse. 122 out of 128.

Our per play combined rank is 123.

If you could somehow add turnover margin, Penalties (along with impact penalties such as taking away a td or long play), injuries and SOS to correctly evaluate the HC, I'd like to see those numbers.

Interesting.....the criteria is always the kicker when it comes to this type of thing. Thanks for sharing.

ok you got me curious so i did it quick - hopefully not too quick to have errors

combining ypp offense rank, ypp defense rank, 0.5* turnover margin rank, and strength of schedule rank and dividing by 3.5

we come out at 81st. the fancy connelly system has us at 76th. pretty close. http://www.footballstudyhall.com/pages/2015-syracuse-advanced-statistical-profile

Washington jumps out as very weird. Explains why they were favored before killing WSU though.

Very very interesting. The weighting of the info/criteria moved around or shifted could make for some very good info. Thanks, pretty cool stuff. Bowling Green did pretty well.
