Watching highlights over the weekend, just amazing how many top 25 teams (and others) are able to strike from long distance.

Alabama had a 99 kickoff return for a score. I can't recall the last time SU returned a kickoff. Need to research that (I was reminded it was last year against West Virginia, but not many over, say, the last five years).

Georgia had TD runs of 75, 51 and 72 yards.

West Virginia had TD passes of 47, 45, 52 and 87 yards.

Baylor had TD passes of 68 and 67 yards

Okie State had 69 yard TD run and 44 yard TD pass.

Texas had a 44 yard TD pass and a 100 yard kickoff return.

Over four games, our long distance scores include 50 and 61 yard TD passes (the second was all Gulley) and a 22 yard run. And then there's the problems inside the five.

Playmakers needed!!

The last TD on a kick off was Dorian Graham against WVU last year.

Yes, that's right. I was at that game. Would like to see how many there have been over the last 8 years or so.

We returned a kickoff for a touchdown last year but is extremely valid. This team has zero game breaking players, the closest one we have is Brolyd and we are giving him inside handoffs.

Betting that Broyld becomes a slot receiver next year. We'll be loaded at tailback.

How soon we forget. I guess though it's easy to do since the team has forgot how to win a game (BCS) since as well. :bang:

we also broke one a couple years ago. Damn I forgot the guy's name.

Max Suter had one a few years back, and didn't Mike Holmes also?

Suter had one in 2007. Holmes had one as well, against Pitt I think? 2008 maybe?

We don't have an Ismail or a Kevin Johnson, but our KO returns haven't been that bad in recent history. We have bigger problems. And given the new kickoff rules, KO returns are going to be less of a premium. College football is clearly trying to get rid of them (as well as onsides kicks), so if kickoff specialists get better at hang time and dropping them at the goal line, we'll eventually see them go away altogether. After a TD or FG, you will just get the ball on the 25.

We need guys who can take a hand off and go the distance. Or WRs that can turn a short pass into a long gain. Or WRs that can get open deep. Those are the highlights that I almost hate watching from others. Especially when we have a nooner snoozer, and then the rest of the day I have to watch playmakers.

We have none of these.

But hey, he's only had 4 years to recruit a fast guy. We need more time.

I think they thought Kobena would be that guy. But he hasn't quite fullfilled that promise. Clearly they need more playmakers.

Well, one might argue that recruiting one fast guy might not be enough.

;)

Broyld did take a kick off against Minny and he looked worse than Kobena.

We do have zero game breaking players on the field though. zero.

Those are called big plays and it’s what Marrone has said over the past 4 years that A) our D needs to prevent and B) our O needs to create. This hasn’t been lost on our staff.

Yes the team is in desperate need of playmakers.

I don’t understand the comment (the second was all Gulley)…what are you implying?

We do have zero game breaking players on the field though. zero.

And as it stands right now there aren't any recruits on the horizon that brings in that capability and the fact that we are staring another losing season in the face isnt going to help.

This is a fact.

from the sounds of it the 2-3 best play makers on the team might be RS this year.

Baby Steps: How about we run half the kickoffs past the 25 and average + 2 yds on punt returns. smh
