i don't blame him much for this but since 2000, West is the only player with 1800+ yards and 120+ receptions with fewer than 5 TD receptions

4 people since 2000 with 2600+ yards and fewer than 11 passing TDs, hunt's one of them

one of 2 schools since 2000 with 33000 passing yards and under 200 TD

only school the last 2 years with 4000 or more passing yards with 15 or fewer passing TDs

hopefully lester has some ideas for how we can ever throw td passes. it's not for lack of trying, we throw plenty

Yesterday they eschewed the RI game plan install for more red zone work. Hope beyond hope the damn breaks and we score damn pass TD's.

I hope you didn't spend more than 30 seconds looking for these stats because, when you get right down to it, this is just more of the same slices of reality that we already know from watching with our own eyes.

probably about 5 minutes. that's 5 minutes too long

we know we've stunk but there are a million other teams in college football and not even this board is paying attention to what kent state is doing. there are so many worthless programs

One great thing about college football is that things can change and they do change.

As far as stats go, you embrace them more than I do. I like stats in-game a lot. I can often brake down a game fairly well just following the stats online (but of course, seeing it, even on a tv screen, adds so much more).

When stats go beyond specific college football games I begin to ask a lot of questions. I think college football stats, while they can be useful, in general are perhaps the least helpful of all the major sports. Just comparing stats within the ACC is an example. The schedules in the ACC last season, both OOC and in conference, were just too varied to make much out of many specific slice of reality stats. Stats are fun, but they can be a distraction.

no one watches all the games. there are too many. that's what the stats are for.

What those stats point to is:

1. We have been awful on the red zone
2. We have a big QB who can run
3. We've lacked speed at the skill positions, no run after the catch
4. Our OC was incompetent and the system made no sense

Stuff we already knew, but illuminating none the less.

when you lack a playmaker at qb and WR and a scheme that makes teams play guys 1-1 how do you get throws into the endzone?

not that it helps but you cant add on to dropping probably 5-10 td passes when you have a below avg offense to start with

Stats are useful in many ways, especially when evaluating what happened between two teams playing against each other at a given time and place. Using college football stats in a national context, or even across a conference, waters them down a bit in my opinion. Some are better than others. Lester uses stats, but he is selective.

every other school that throws the ball has playmakers but us?

what we're seeing is very unusual. it's not that unusual to lack "playmakers" i think it's becoming your default response

This is really the only thing we need to remember here. We've had one legitimately good QB in that timeframe, and only a couple legitimate WR1-tyle talents (Mike Williams, Alec Lemon, and probably Steve Ishmael). Even David Tyree was pretty hit and miss during his career, with a few great games, and a lot of games where he was pretty invisible.

The fact that SU has lacked talent and scheme for such a long period of time is disappointing. How I long for the day when national media hacks mock when they point out the NFL career stats for our drafted former Qbs.

there are a lot of schools with lots of sub par QBs and WR. apparently those schools either choose to not throw the ball so much or choose a better scheme to let them throw it more effectively

nothing earth shattering here, it's just when there are so many teams, i find it interesting when I can filter out everyone else

i hope the offense scores a lot of points and i do not care how. i also hope we pass a lot to give hunt some practice, i hope we are ahead enough to give wilson some reps., i hope we do not overplay our starters if we are comfortably in control. i hope, i hope......;)
