PS: Improved Syracuse football front five could unlock offense (OL preview)

It is pretty remarkable how far the offensive line personnel have come under Babers. Redshirting his first class, and then following suit every year is really beginning to pay off -- and for the first time in a LONG time, we have some depth to work with here.

I think this article nails it -- this group is poised to take a big step forward this year.

This is the area on this team that NEEDs to improve . If we can run 150+ /game i'd bet we avr 35/game !! We score like that we'll be ok with the LB core learning curve . Oh hell if we get a pass rush but now i'm dreaming a little
If we're totong the rock for a buck fifty per game, we better be averaging 40+.

This could end up being the best OL unit in years! Can't wait to see what they can do.

Absolutely! Definitely the best since that cohesive unit nassibs senior season.

Our young and inexperienced O-Line from last year was bailed out against Clemson's Front 4 because of Dungey's mobility. If the line can help Dungey alive this year, the sky is the limit.

I wanted to push back on one word in your post. Our line was mediocre against Clemson because it was young and inexperienced. I don’t think that’s the case anymore.

Strickland had 78 yards at 4 ypc too. They played a solid game against an NFL d line.

Very fair.

Fair. I just remember Dungey running for his life and making it work. But the line did get some GREAT push at times.

Please forgive my somewhat blurry memories - I was heavily under the influence of Tapas and Intoxicants that night.

Yeah, Dungey certainly made things happen. I can't remember if that was one of the games where he unnecessarily left a good pocket at times. Sometimes he runs himself into pressure. Hopefully more confidence in a better line will lessen that.

If the offensive line puts it together, that's what will finally make our offense click. We've lately had a major disparity in yards and points (being in the top 25 in the former and the bottom 20% in the latter), and looking back on the games O-Line play seems like the #1 reason for that. Pass blocking actually seemed pretty decent, it was run blocking that was the consistent problem. They couldn't get any push, which meant our running game was nonexistent in the red zone, which made our red zone offense horrendous. I expect our tackles to be very good, the interior is the question IMO. Can the combination of Heckel, Servais, Roberts & Byrne find 3 guys who are good enough to consistently open holes in the run game? I hope so. I am confident in our pass protection, but the run game is what's holding us up.

The article reminded me of sampson blowing his chances here. Remember back when everyone thought we needed him to start at C this year? he would've definitely helped for 2019 and on though.

Very true, but Servais is working himself into pro material showing he can play center at 6'6" and play tackle. That's huge value at the pro level . Love this kid.

Yup 200/300 run/pass I think is the hope

Let's quit with the crazy #'s predictions. Lets just have a reasonable running game which opponents need to respect and pass protect like hell for ED resulting in his security and health. That's a successful OL.

This has to be the year when the offense explodes. We've been limping by with no running game to balance the passing attack - making us easier to defend. I think that problem disappears this year. Are we loaded at RB? No. But hell I could run behind Coda Martin.

You could run behind a guy who has never been on the field for Syracuse? Who, I guess because he had no pro prospects, is now a fifth year player at Syracuse? Look, he could be great. The whole OL could be great. But, there is a whole lot of orange-colored-glasses opinion on an OL that was, as someone said earlier, "mediocre" last year. We will likely not know anything until game 3 of the season - FSU.

Just checked the SU roster no White listed.
