But Dungey also frequently abandoned the pocket without pressure last year.  He seems utterly incapable of stepping out of bounds or going down before the defense can square him up.  That wins him a lot of adulation in these parts, and he gets lionized as a warrior, but it hampers him as a QB.  He plays recklessly, and for every time he successfully jumps over a defender or kicks one in the face, he more often takes a harder hit than he needs to.  At this point he's a senior still making these kinds of poor decisions, and I'm skeptical he will (or can) change.  So long as he plays QB with the mentality of a LB, he will be injury prone.  There's a reason why the vast majority of QB's don't play the way Dungey does, and it isn't because Dungey is simply tougher or more old school or just loves the game more.  Most QB's understand that they hurt the team by being reckless and taking unnecessary hits, and they grow and mature and realize they are not superman.

Stress is cumulative, and the extra stress Dungey puts on his body absolutely has an effect, even in injuries like the foot one and not just the concussion related ones.

The difference this year is that we finally have a capable and talented backup.
