PS: Syracuse football tight ends have a real threat in Ravian Pierce (spring preview)

This guys going to be our x factor. There were clear plays last year where you could tell he’s absolutely capable of being the best player on the field if he keeps his head straight

Hoping he can because I agree with you

At times his antics were the edge we needed, but most of the time it just caused unnecessary penalties that stammered our flow

That article highlights the need to build depth -- didn't take a TE in the class of 2018 [I align with Tomcat in projecting Horan to OT long term], and there isn't much behind the top two guys. I'd expect TE to be an important focus in class of 2019 recruiting. Can't go into next season with just one scholarship player at the position.

I agree that Pierce can be a difference maker -- especially now that he has a year of experience under his belt. Have to avoid injuries here, because the dropoff would appear to be steep after the first two guys [no offense to Connors].

We all said last year Pierce is an NFL talent.
He ran the wheel route off the fake slant to perfection last year.

How many times was he targeted? I like him and his demeanor but for me the position seems like an afterthought in the scheme.
Article says 29 catches I believe, second most in ACC??

Will also move up the record book at Syracuse in just 2 seasons if he repeats production

Huge fan of Pierce. I felt he was vastly under utilized last year. imo he has the receiving skills to be one of the top receiving threats on the team.
He just needs to avoid the dumbass personal foul penalties.

FIFY.

Keep an eye on Jesse Conners the Holy Cross transfer who had to sit out last year. Dude tore up the spring game last year and looked very comfortable catching the ball short and deep.
For sure. People seemed to be raving about this kid last year and were disappointed he had to sit. He's just an afterthought in this article. Just googly eyes for Ravian, maybe?

Well I think people (rightfully so) have super high expectations for Pierce as a Sr coming off a good year and now having a year of D1 under his belt. I definitely wouldn't sleep on Conners though, espeially with Pierce being a JUCO with only only year left Conners is likely the TE of the future.

I like that Pierce has that edge and isn't afraid to mix it up with anyone. We need more guys like that, not less. Everyone throws accusations of the penalties being dumba$$ but no one knows what happened on the field. Guys scrap and talk smack and take cheap shots all the time. Some guys let it go and others stand up, others go so far that few willingly follow. There's a mental edge somewhere in there that translates and this program needs more of it, not less.

Yes - love his talent but no more of the Michael Hay impersonation

I'll take as many Michael Hay players as I can get.

He was an intense player.

I was sitting fairly close when the Rutgers personal foul was called on Hay. I didn't feel Michael did anything wrong. At worst he blocked the defender a bit late - it was certainly not a dirty hit.

Yeah and you'll constantly be going back 10 and 15 yards because of penalties. It wasn't just the Rutgers game. Everybody watching the game shouldn't know an offensive lineman's number that well. It is possible to be tough and still be smart, believe it or not.

It was a legit PF.

I really like Pierce, Hackett and Connors. I think these guys are going to get SU a lot of first downs in 2018. Yes, Pierce needs to play smarter but I enjoy his passion and the kid wants to score every time he gets the ball...I like that type of thinking. He'll also fumble a few times in 18 as well so with trying to score all the time will come a few miscues but overall he's a talented TE.

I'd rather see Hackett be the blocking back instead of Elmore and move Elmore permanently to DT. He could also catch some passes from a hurried QB to take the ball out of Dungeys hands.

Connors just looks to me like a kid that gets it. Hits the open seams and can run with the ball...not sure about his blocking.

Just disagree.

The guy was tough as nails.

He set a tone.

And if he had not been effective, Marrone would not have played him.

There were far more late hit penalties on defense in those years.
