There's no right or wrong answer and the guys who come to mind are cuseguy and orangepa

What is better

Seven wins a year for six years or four four win seasons and two ten win seasons (average of six) ?

I care way more about having really good seasons but I'm not saying that's the only way to look at it

I'm not saying these are the only two choices in real life. I'm not saying babers will have a ten win season every three years

This is a really tough question. I'm not sure 10 is a high enough number to put up with the other seasons especially with our weak schedule. Yes last year was super fun to watch and something I never thought possible here but who did we actually beat? A fringe top 25 NCST? A WVU without their elite QB and others?

Yeah, I'm really torn here... it may depend on the order too... as in 4,4,10,4,4,10 vs 4,4,4,4,10,10... I think I'd prefer the two straight 10 win seasons over having them mixed in. I guess if we were destined to either win 7 games every season forever or do the 2 ten win seasons out of 6 forever... I'd choose the fun of the occasional 10 win seasons

Four wins is pretty bad. That isn’t easy to put up with. Having 7 wins every year can be frustrating but at least you have some good moments. I would take three 5-7s and one 10-3 which is 25-24 over four years vs four 7-6s which is 28-24. But I can’t do 18-19 ever three years over 21-18.

I just don’t think they have to be mutually exclusive.

Down years should be 6-7 wins. Not 3-4.

It’s harder for Addazio ball to have the special years. Always going to be a few games where they need to throw the ball to win, and they’re not built for it.

We should be built to run and pass. Play well enough on D. Bad years are boring bowls.

Also not all 7-6s are equal. Are we playing cupcakes OOC and only beating bottom conference teams to get to those 7 wins (like BC)? Or do we play a decent OOC schedule and have one signature win (more like Pitt)?

Not all 4-8s are equal. An injury riddled 4-8 (like 2016) or a 4-8 vs a hard schedule (like 2002) is a lot easier to take vs a 4-8 like this year. But if you are saying four 4-8s over 6 years, the chances are those are the bad kind.

Do those 10-3s include any ACC championship appearances? That would factor too.

I agree, I'm not justifying any of this. Addazio's higher floor and lower ceiling just made me think of it. Was just trying to make it a hard either or question to see if other people are willing to be worse over the long haul if the highs are better.

I'd rather be the devil Rays than the Marlins though, there are limits to this

I agree. 5-7 has to include a decent win or two to hang your hat on. 4-8 almost always blows.

When it comes to our opponents, I love Addazio at BC because the ceiling is low.

So for us I don't want that.

Is the 7th win the bowl game? I’d be ok with 7-6 every year if it was with a bowl win most years

Seven wins a year for six years.

And you hope for one breakout season - a 1987 season - every seven years.

If you are a program like ours, I think you should expect Iowa-like seasons.

You're not playing by my totally arbitrary made up rules

Really?

I thought the hypo allowed for a great seventh season?

Oh well,

I would still go with the seven win seasons.

Keeps fans interested, allows for bowl games and attracts players.

I wonder if 7-5 keeps people interested if that's all you get.

I want to go all Kobayashi Maru on this poll and choose six 10-win seasons. :D

I’d go with the 4 4’s and 2 to 10’s. 6 7-5’s seems boring although consistently OK and a bowl every year. But I want the occasional big season with eyes on bigger bowls.

I think the 3 or 4 win seasons are devastating - they really hurt.

At least the seven win seasons result in post season bowl games - which keep fans engaged and give them a chance to travel at the end of the season.

The trauma of a 3-4 win season has much more impact than the frustration of a seven win season.
