Class of 2023 QB Austin Novosad (TX) Portal from Oregon to Bowling Green

Some Oregon fans on the CFB reddit are saying Novosad was beaten out by a walk on for a backup role last season.

Did some research and Walk On Brock Thomas beat out Novosad for the number two role last season according to their QB coach and it was confirmed several times during the year.

He does look talented but was never going to play at Oregon. Looks like Kentucky would be our main competition.

With Odom in the fold staff might be willing to take a flyer on a guy that doesn't have snaps and game film.

Sounds like he’s gonna good head on his shoulders. Strangely familiar stat lines and story to Luke Carney (beat out by a walk-on if that is true). But may be a good system for if his strengths are reading a defense and making quick decisions in the short to intermediate passing game.

When you get a chance to get a 4-star QB, you take it.

Plus, we have an opening now that our 4-star QB (Williams) has left the team.

Seems to me we are playing with fire again.
we have Odom, who is an experienced starter to backup Steve so that is a leg up on last year. That being said, if we could get Dickens, and I believe we can, I think it’s a mistake to not get him instead of this kid.

These are the type of guys you are going to have to take a flier on when you are offering QB3 most likely

Yeah if Steve is fully healthy , you have a QB1 whole led the country in passing 1/4 through the season then add a highly coveted lower level fbs qb with p4 starter chops. You also have a frosh in Lott coming in. Landing a top 3 FCS QB, also likely with starting aspirations to the QB room seems a tough task to me but of course if you can make it happen that’s a damn winning lottery ticket of a QB room. So reality setting in to maybe add a kid like this, gives you a talented but unproven 4 star in that QB3 mix which seems more likely from the kids perspective.

Agree. If there's one thing I've learned over the last year, it 's production over potential.

What good is a 4-star with 2 career passes? Why not just keep Carney and his 3-passes (or whatever)? Why not keep Williams and his 0 passes? Colgate had three guys pass 6+ times against us. There has to be a backup with game experience that would be content to be QB#3.

Guys like AET and Meeks might beg to differ.

As far as QB’s go, you’re likely correct.

While we have sporadically had a random backup like “Officer” Mahoney play reasonably well -
at least enough so that we could potentially still win games -
the vast majority of unproven QB’s have not.

I am not thrilled... unless we are getting info from Ross Douglas and/or that his former OC at Kentucky is trying to get him too. If Oregon and Kentucky are "meh," there is no reason for us to think we have a diamond in the rough here.

I just don’t know who else we are getting is my point. The coaching staff obviously did not like any of the QBs we had on the roster last year so I don’t get why we would want to keep them. I’m not saying this kid will amount to anything but like I said who can we get as a QB3/QB4 depth piece at this point
