Class of 2023 QB Cameron Edge (MD) Offered

I see this being a fun & pleasurable recruitment up until the very end when we’ll ultimately fail to finish.

I don’t ever get worked up about recruiting. As in this case for example. Look at his offers. I always get disappointed. Now, if ECU, Buffalo, Tulsa etc we’re offering him, id be more interested

In the transfer portal. Might be worth a look. Lost a pretty close competition for the starting QB role at Maryland:

On Edge: :)

COLLEGE PARK — Maryland football coach Mike Locksley confirmed Tuesday afternoon that third-string quarterback Cameron Edge will enter the transfer portal when it opens Dec. 9.

Edge, a 6-foot, 225-pound redshirt sophomore, had competed with starter Billy Edwards Jr. and backup MJ Morris for the right to open the season against UConn under center. He completed 4 of 6 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown in the team’s 50-7 rout of the Huskies on Aug. 31 and threw one pass for 10 yards in a 38-20 victory over Villanova on Sept. 21. Edge, a Clayton, Delaware, native, also completed 4 of 6 passes for 82 yards with a touchdown and an interception in Maryland’s 31-13 victory over Auburn in the Music City Bowl in December.

But with Edwards Jr. only a redshirt junior, Morris a redshirt sophomore and four more quarterbacks on the roster, Edge likely concluded he wasn’t going to get much playing time with the Terps. Plus, the next incoming class of freshmen includes four-star recruit Malik Washington, a Spalding standout.

Locksley said he did not begrudge Edge for choosing to leave the program.

Maryland redshirt sophomore quarterback Cameron Edge plans to enter the transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. Along with North Carolina State transfer MJ Morris, Edge lost an offseason competition under center to current Terrapins starter Billy Edwards Jr.

Since, Edwards has further established himself in his redshirt junior campaign under head coach Mike Locksley.

Edwards, who previously backed up longtime starter Taulia Tagovailoa, has led the Terps to a 4-3 overall record, albeit just a 1-3 mark in Big Ten play. That said, Maryland’s first league win of the year was a memorable one. This past weekend in the Terps’ first-ever meeting with USC, they came back from 14 points down in the fourth quarter to beat the Trojans, 29-28.

Edwards completed 39-of-50 passes for 373 yards while throwing two touchdowns and a pick. He also ran for what ended up being the game-winning touchdown with less than a minute to go.

Averaging 301.9 passing yards per game, Edwards sits atop the Big Ten in that department. He’s also responsible for a 13:4 touchdown-to-interception ratio, not to mention his four total rushing touchdowns.

Edge, meanwhile, has played just 21 offensive snaps this season, according to Pro Football Focus: 18 against UConn in Week 1 and three against Villanova in Week 4. Edge has completed five of his eight pass attempts for 67 yards and a touchdown in those appearances.

Last year, the Smyrna High School product and Clayton, Delaware, native saw action in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl, like Edwards. Edge completed 4-of-6 passes for 82 yards and logged his first career touchdown, as well as his first career pick, while the Terps defeated Auburn, 31-13.

For reasons that, as a Delawarean, I don't understand, we've been offering quite a few Delaware HS football players this cycle. One reason I flagged this, along with the fact that we had previously offered, albeit under a different regime.

I watched a Maryland game a few weeks ago against Northwestern and Billy Edwards Jr. was BAD. No touch, not good pocket presence and not very accurate. I know that fit and everything is big, but if he's a guy that can't beat out Edwards...not sure we'd want him for anything other than depth. I'd personally rather a transfer QB who started at a smaller school and balled out, but just my opinion.

Watched portions of that game. You're right!

With the production McCord is putting up this year, we can do much better recruiting more accomplished portal transfer QBs.

Much better.
Absolutely, we may not be able to find another Kyle McCord, because he is a needle in a haystack. But, if we keep winning and showing that we can surround a great QB with weapons in a complimentary offense, we should be able to get better than 3rd string from a crappy team.

Well better than third string from a crappy team or 4th/5th string from a good team. At least Shrader had been a P4 starter.
