Hunt was obviously the better QB once the games were played. I really doubt that the staff would have led with Allen if he looked like he was holding a live hand grenade during every practice. I suspect he looked better than Hunt in practice and fell apart in games. But even at that, you're not going to yank him after one bad game in his first start (PSU) because you still don't know whether it was just gameday jitters or a larger problem. By game 3 he was being rotated out - how much faster did you want it to happen? If anything the Allen situation shows me that the staff makes business decisions and when they realize a decision isn't working, they address it as quickly as possible. With AJ, my guess is that the staff probably wanted to redshirt him if possible because he still isn't physically mature - he may be performing well, but at what cost? If he stays healthy, odds are he's going to be much better as a 5th year senior than a true freshman. So the staff went with the QB that led the team to a winning season last year, was the MVP of our bowl and has the best handle of the playbook. I don't think anyone expected Hunt to regress but that's what has happened and by the 3rd or 4th game of the season it was pretty obvious. Was that solely on him, a result of McDonald struggling to call plays, a little bit of both? I'm not sure. There are a lot of moving parts here.
