Since we're talking about the possibility of getting true freshman QB's in games to play to see what they've got, I thought for those who don't know about who, IMHO, are the two best off the bench I copy pasted info about Markiewicz and Morgan.

Looking at stats doesn't really give you that much information – you have to see the kid under center, look at all his moves from footwork to ball position getting ready to throw, release point accuracy, release time, running speed, mobility in the pocket, football IQ, and more but all I can show you is what's on cuse.com. I imagine they wouldn't be here if Gilbert didn't think they have some talent to play at this level. Dillon's senior year for a kid in a highly rated HS division from Texas is impressive. I Googled is tape and he's all that his stats show. Perhaps Gilbert wants to keep him under wraps or just not allow him the possibility of injury.

Dillon seems the more accomplished, (see stats), but Morgan showed up on the field last Saturday so perhaps he is the more ready QB. Gilbert and Babers would both see what each can do in a game situation.

It would be a great idea to put both in before the season is complete to see what each has and not when the other team is ahead by 40 points – get them in when it matters if only for two sets of offense. Either they can't handle the pressure or a surprising discovery, a QB who may be a great addition. You'll then have an idea on both before any other QB recruits like Lamson step onto campus.

Everybody...and I mean everybody...believed that Markiewicz would be the first of the two to emerge. Morgan was an afterthought. Somebody on the board here claiming knowledge of the situation claimed that he was worlds away from playing at this level. Yet, here he is,front and center. This is not a ploy to keep somebody else out of sight from future opponents. He has shown the most and now is his chance to grab the job and run with it. I’m excited to see him go again after the great start in an otherwise maddening season. ( save the emergence of Tucker)

dont we have 2 kids coming in next yr as QBs? do we think whoever we put back there makes us win 2-3 more games? If you play either QB now and he plays just ok what do the kids coming in start to think? We dont ever have QB depth and we need it. slow playing the QB in a bad yr is not the worst thing..

But I do think that I would play the backups a little someplace sooner in the game even though Rex is probably still the best shot at actually winning games if he doesnt make mistakes.

Start Rex. Try a freshman every 3 or 4 series (one frosh QB per game). Heck, it worked well for Nassib. ;)

If we fall behind by 3 scores let the freshman/freshmen finish the game.

I am confused, what specifically are you trying to say?

Wasn't it the opposite?
Not really. Gilbert definitely had a big hand in getting Dillon. Morgan may have been a team effort.

We were recruiting Dillon for a substantial amount of time before Gilbert got hired, so I don't think your assessment is accurate. Once Gilbert was hired, Morgan came onto the radar -- which is why I think you've got them reversed.

This is what I see: Also Dillon's recruiting thread was not created until he was on his visit to Syracuse.
When Mike Fecci learned that Sterlin Gilbert was being hired as Syracuse football’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, the McKinney (Texas) North High School head coach didn’t hesitate to reach out.
Fecci’s offensive coordinator, Kyle Hardin, played with Gilbert at Division II Angelo State, and the two crossed paths during Gilbert’s nine years working in Texas, primarily high schools, from 2003-2011.
Class of 2020 quarterback Dillon Markiewicz, Fecci told Gilbert, was still available and waiting on a Football Bowl Subdivision opportunity.
Pretty quick after he got there, we had reached out to him and said, ‘(Markiewicz)’s still sitting there,’" Fecci said.
Gilbert was familiar with Markiewicz from recruiting him to McNeese State last year. So he and Orange head coach Dino Babers flew down to see the 6-foot-5, 220-pound high school senior early last week. Then they invited Markiewicz up for an official visit.
our new OC specifically brought him in for a visit
Re Morgan:
Talked to his coach and he confirmed this is a scholarship. Says a lot of guys from Canton haven't been recruited because of grades, but he's made big improvements since taking over three years ago. Morgan isn't a Gilbert guy and I'm under the impression that the connection here is with Canton's DC and Babers -- something like the DC's mentor coached Dino at Hawaii or something like that. Believe the primary is either Lustig or Ferri.

Other offers are Jackson State and some JUCOs. Process was very quick -- took about two weeks from SU getting film to visits and the commitment.
