QB1: Angeli

I was thinking the same thing. Coaches sometimes have a habit of getting conservative in big moments. Fran Brown hasn't shown that tendency yet... But it can't hurt his aggressiveness if he's really not convinced his guy can even make the field goal if he chooses not to go for it.
Yeah, I hear you. I tend to think last year's 4th down decision making (we only attempted 22 FG and made less than 60%, including 3-9 from 40+) had more to do with FB's faith in McCord/Nixon. This year it's reasonable to assume that scoring against the Ds we will face will be much more of a challenge.

I hope FB is even more aggressive this year because of the FG situation AND Angeli's talent.

Forgot how bad we were on FGs to begin with.

Tripp Woody hit from 49 and 56 with room to spare the other day. Seems like he is the better FG Kicker and Jaden Oh is the better Kicker for kickoff. I also found it funny that Ethan Stangle is the long snapper for punts but Franny Jr is the better long snapper for FG. It's rare to use multiple snappers and multiple kickers.

Javon on Axe’s pod was having a real problem with it. He was riled up saying there shouldn’t be separate kickers for kickoffs and field goals. I view them as different skill sets. What does it matter if they’re two different people? Whomever does the better job should be the one on the field. If it’s two different people, so be it.

You mean the guy that wants to run the wing-t and thinks he knows more than our coaches?

Yeah. That's a weird thing to get worked up about. Seems like people do that when they don't know what they're talking about and don't have real points to make.

Yeah, on kickoffs you want a dude that just kicks the crap out of the ball straight enough that it doesn't go out of bounds. You don't need a ton of accuracy.

Accuracy is the main thing you want from your kicker on field goals and extra points (assuming they're steady enough from a reasonable difference).

Not everyone's Olinda Mare. If you've got a guy that boots it great and a guy that is reliable on field goals and you leverage their strengths, that's fine.

Snapping in the Pros to limit roster spots vs snapping in college with twice the people.

In HS often different kids as well.

One to remember is that a snap on a FG the center just limits blocking and stands there. Snaps for punting requires running down field and making tackles. Some kids snap well for 8 yds not for 15 too.

Another goofy take. Almost an unlimited roster, who cares?

Dope

O’Neill?
Denaburg?

If it’s out the back of the end zone, there ain’t a return.

That's fair, but from everything we've heard it's less of a "neither guy is separating" and more of a "both these guys are really good and have slightly different skill sets, so which works better within this offense" situation.
Im happy for that to be the case especially if the coaches are saying that after a year of McCord. My only concern would be if Collins is actually that good, why would we risk losing him by bringing Angeli in. I dont like to give a whole lot of weight to what is said by .com beat reporters, but they're not wrong when they say that collins likely isnt sticking around if hes not the starter.

Having been a SU FB fan since the days of Bernie Ruoff, I've seen all the great placekickers and punters we've had. I remember when Syracuse set the NCAA record for most consecutive XPs. The streak without missing an XP covered 11 years! (SU did not score a lot of TDs in those days, so it took a long time to accumulate 262 XPs.)

The idea that the FG kicker has to do kickoffs is straight out bizarre. It is easy to see in the FG accuracy of Andre Szmyt over his time. He was superb in the years when someone else was doing kickoffs. His worst season was the year he did both FGs and kickoffs. Just kicking for raw power is different than kicking for accuracy, under pressure, and timed with the snap. Two very different things, and it's easier to excel if you only have to do one.

SU finds itself with 2 mediocre place kickers this season. It's actually good news if each one can concentrate on doing just one thing.

SU's STs were so bad last year, and Rickie Brumfield's inauspicious departure from GaTech makes him a very questionable replacement at SU. At the time "he left the staff":

Georgia Tech ranks 121st in kickoff return defense, 1st in blocked kicks, 106th in blocked kicks allowed, 71st in kickoff returns, 107th in net punting, 98th in punt return defense, and 81st in punt returns. Georgia Tech kicker Aidan Birr ranks 106th in field goal percentage.

Because you don't know if he's that good or if Angeli is better until you have a competition. It's not a video game where we can look at the attribute ratings and make a decision. Coaches have to see guys do what they ask with their own eyes before they know how good they are.

yeahhh he tries hard which I respect. But the only person that listens to Javon is Javon. Someone said earlier he talks far too much about the Eagle and TEMPLE…..temple. He says some kinda outlandish stuff. Like a lot
Sometimes I think that he believes he’s on a Temple podcast, not a Syracuse one. He frequently refers to Temple players that I’ve never heard of.

I’m living in Germany now and have NordVPN and ESPN+. Sounds like I need to get the new ESPN package or I will be limited to watching only the games that are not on ESPN tv channels or ABC? Or will ESPN+ carry replays?

He’s the not cool kid who wants to be cool so he just says stuff. Not impressed. He comes across as extremely annoying.
