Both he and Ennis shoot about the same from the FT line. One is a Senior and one is a Freshman. So why was I surprised that Ennis wasn't taking the shots. Was I the only one?

CJ is usually automatic so I wasn't surprised he took them. I was very surprised when he missed both....

I was surprised (and subsequently chastised) in the chat room when I asked the same question. I know they shoot about the same, but Ennis had hit 2 just a minute or two before the technical foul. I would have put him up there.

Maybe a CJ has a cold or something. Maybe he has jammed finger. There's always tons of stuff that comes in and out of play all season. I'm just glad they have week off to recharge the squad.

If CJ makes both (or even one) free throws, does this thread exist?

I think not. In which case it's pretty meaningless revisionism.

Class dismissed.

I take responsibility. I jinxed him before the game. When he was warming up pregame shooting ft's, I said to my friend just before he shot one, that this one is for the win - and he promptly bricked it. And continued to do so the rest of the day. I promise to never do that again :)
So you are the reason he nearly airballed two free throws.

Class back in session. Got your point, but obviously I was not the only one who felt Ennis should be shooting them, before CJ missed both FT's.

Besides isn't this the type of thread of what internet forums are all about.

Actually, it was me. I didn't back into the basement to get another beer. Every time the Orange shoot free throws I go down into the basement to get another beer and then they make them. The problem was I was on my 22nd beer at that point. Sorry, but I had to let CJ miss.

Why would you put the freshman on the line instead of the senior? That makes no sense. JB had decided to give the senior, who came back for his senior year, who is an ACC POY candidate the opportunity to add to his point total.

If anyone should have gotten the call instead of CJ it should have been TC. TC has the clear best FT percentage. And it may have helped TC settle down and get in the flow.

But JB did the right thing and in the end it didn't cost SU.

Ba$tard! That could cost us in the future. Hope you learned your lesson.

;)

all things being equal (and the FT % was ) 99% of coaches always defer to the upperclassmen.

Doesn't seem like it lately. I don't like his form. He doesn't come to a stop at the top of his FT, like most top FT shooters. Too many moving parts, and he gets out of sync, like every FT is different from the rest. He needs to slow down, and get everything moving in a line toward the release and arc of his shot. IMO, he needs to separate his jump shot form from his FT form more.

CJ's the senior, so I'm good with putting him on the line in that situation. Even if he misses, you want the team to know that the guy they look up to is going to step up to the plate. Ennis, though he's clearly a leader, is still only a Freshman and I just like putting a more experienced guy in a nerve-wracking spot like that (even though Ennis apparently doesn't know what nervousness even is).

Cooney would have been ideal, but he was on the bench I believe.

I read somewhere that although they have the same FT% overall, Tyler is shooting only 64% in The Dome.

Went back and did some cipherin' (as Jethro used to say). In the Dome this season, Tyler is shooting 56% while CJ is shooting 72%. Overall for the season, Tyler is 73% while CJ is 72%. So CJ is essentially the same in the Dome or away, while Tyler seems to shoot it better away from home (90% away vs. 56% at home). Interesting. Good pickup, MBA.

It would be interesting to know if that is why JB sent CJ to the line. At that point in the game, Tyler was 2-2.

I was shocked that CJ was taking them. I dont care what the percentages are... I can see who is the better ft shooter.
