Couple schools of thought:

A) Rising HC at lower  level with proven record, preferably offensive.  Look at the upper echelon D1aa's etc or the ODUs, Utah states etc.

B) Rising OC at any level, leach disciple types like the ecu guy

C) Rising SEC type talent.  Guys ready for the next step in their career trajectory who can bring a staff that recruits like mad

I prefer a former HC with a proven track record.  Preferably a guy who's going to coach to the indoor track.  Like my choice A.  Then I'd want him to bring his own guy like choice B .  Rising OC  just stepping up to the next level.  Top it off by hiring a guy like Shafer to coach defense.  Bottom line though is it would be nice to look somewhat competent  on O.  Last night was gump/pariani bad.
