  1. Why did it take until the last game of the season to go to extensive use of the quick game? Seems an obvious way to compensate for OLine problems.
  2. Why was the OLine blocking so much better against ND than NC State (or everyone else for that matter)? Was it the quick game that kept them off balance or did we do something else different?
  3. Why were we so vulnerable to QB runs while in cover one or straight man? We had 5 rushers - did we not stay in lanes? So many times there was nobody on either side.
  4. The OLine has gone from bad to worse under Cavanaugh. In sacks allowed we have been 114th, 127th and 125th in 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively. Same for rushing yards 70th (4.32), 106th (3,69), 112th (3,16). Is he the right guy?

Either Gilbert was stubborn, or they needed more work on the quick game?

They put up a handful of plays showing how quick Rex was releasing the ball. That helped.

The OL "stats" have been poor all five years.

vs P5 teams ACC ranks

Sacks Per Game
2020 11th (not including ND)
2019 14th
2018 11th
2017 12th
2016 14th

Yards Per Carry
2020 12th (not including ND)
2019 13th
2018 10th
2017 10th
2016 14th

Stay the course. It’ll get better. Next year every player will improve and the OL will be really good.

1) ND was the game we had circled for the year and we couldn’t let ND see game tape of our offense planned for Saturday.

4) Covid and injuries. Plus more Covid.

Wasn't Davis working himself in to game shape after coming back about 3 games ago? And somebody said Servais has looked healthier since the second off week. Those two things seem significant. Having healthy conditioned olinemen helps.

A couple of stabs in the dark:

1. Not sure why we didn't use this sooner. One reason might be all the skill positions must be on the same page with presnap reads, most importantly the QB. My understanding is that these are concept plays much more than pre-designed play calls. For example, if we get this look in this coverage against this leverage, the ball is going here vs. play call quick slant to Z.

3. Most teams are vulnerable to QB runs vs. straight man coverage. Book is EXCEPTIONAL at avoiding the rush, RPOs, scrambling, and running for yardage. He is a true difference maker.

4. The staff evaluations have to start with Cav
