OFFENSIVELY

1.) Is Marcus Sales back?
My answer: Yes

2.) Which running back wants the job?
My answer: Jerome Smith 1st down and short yardage, Prince Tyson-Gulley scat back

3.) Who takes over on the right side of the line?
My Answer: Kris Curtis OT (I think Hickey will be treated with kid gloves as he comes back and will get a chance in the fall) and Ivan Foy G

4.) Who plays Lemon's role?
My Answer: I think Sales will play on one side but on the other??? I don't know. Maybe Jarrod West??? But I have no clue to be honest. I think Cornelius could come in the fall and play if he is good as the NYC papers say.

5.) Who is getting Provo's touches?
My Answer: Beckett Wales with David Stevens keeping the role he played this year, I think Addazio may be the guy who replaces Adam Harris. If not I don't think he does much outside of goal line/special teams.

6.) Will anyone push Nassib?
My Answer: No, there may be some form of wildcat for Hunt/Kinder but I think Loeb will be like Matt Hale (a backup forever), redshirt Broyld and while Hunt/Kinder both have good talent running I have watched both throw at the spring game (Kinder) and warmups (Hunt) and I don't think either one is close to Nassib right now.

DEFENSIVELY

1.) Is a bigger defensive front better vs. the run and better at protecting linebackers?
My Answer: TDB I don't believe the JUCO's will be here until August. Assuming they were brought in to play and Googins actually moves to DE that leaves Crume, Sloan, and Bromley playing and I don't think you recruit a JUCO if you thought they were all ready. I know alot of people will talk about end and pass rush but I think outside of Brandon Sharpe passrush will have to come up the middle or off blitzes, because we don't have anyone that can do it on their own on the roster now (or really coming in ready to play).

2.) Who Plays Linebacker?
My Answer: With Dan Vaughn leaving, Spruill out for the spring that leaves only Dyshawn Davis as a player written in ink on the depth chart. I think it's relatively easy to push Cameron Lynch into Vaunghn's role on a full time basis but don't forget Dom Amene he played alot of downs for the team last year. That leaves Myles Davis, Lewellyn Coker and Siriki Diabate to fight for the MLB Spot. Don't discount Coker, he hits...HARD and I think this is his last real chance to earn playing time. Also don't be suprised if you see some cross training (Mungwa and Simmons). Oliver Vigille will be backup Davis and be a good special teams guy in my mind

3.) And the secondary?
My answer: Is a dumpster fire. Sorry but it is. Shamarko is talented but not great and needs a ballhawk behind him to keep him out of coverage. Jeremy Wilkes is pretty good but he's not Phil Thomas. Durell Eskeridge has a real opportunity here to show he can be a player. As for CB I think it's wide open and if nothing else Reddish, George, Desir and Anderson will get alot more attention than they would otherwise get. Take adavantage of it.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Can the coverage units be as bad as before?
My answer: I think there are alot of athletes that should make them faster and stronger (Vigille, Eskeridge, Mungwa, George, Simmons, Addazio, Beaulieu and Hale) that should give them the potential to be better. We shall see

Can someone get a kickoff in bounds and inside the 10?
My answer: No, there is a reason they recruited Norton

Can Fisher be a premier punter
My answer: Yes, neither Brendan Carney nor Rob Long were consistent when they were freshman and they grew. I think he will be much better this year. He kicks quick which gives him an advantage over Long and Carney. Get consistant height and the distance will come.

Your thoughts?

The secondary will be better than last year. Kevyn Scott was very limited in his abilities, Shamarko/Lyn played hurt, as did Anderson, and we have some nice talent that got experience as true freshmen like Reddish and Desir. Eskridge and George will have great opportunities as they are both good players.

It most certainly isn't a dumpster fire.

Can anyone confirm this?

Vaughn was NOT introduced with the other graduating Seniors.

It's possible that Fizz looked at SU's roster and saw Vaughn was a Senior, and assumed that he was a "real" senior, not a "fake" senior.

I am talking about the spring. We are all assuming that Reddish, Desir, Eskridge and George are good. But if they were then why didn't they play last year as Scott and Anderson were getting beat consistently (specifically Reddish and Desir who were not redshirted)? Until the spring is over and we see development none of the guys have done anything to lead us to have any confidence in them.

Eskridge and George were hurt and couldn't play. Desir isn't a CB, he is a FS. Eskridge BTW is a CB, at least for now. True frosh rarely excel at CB...it is hardly a damning thing if Reddish was still in learning mode after making the huge jump from NYC HS ball to a BCS program.

Personally, I didn't think Scott or Anderson had miserable seasons. Thought they both played okay, especially given they were wearing casts and playing hurt. They, like any secondary, really need a decent pass rush to be effective.

In Anderson and Lyn, we have a couple of experienced CBs to build around. Shamarko and Wilkes provide a couple of experienced safeties to work with. There will be better depth in the fall and the spring will provide a great chance for the talented youngsters to get some playing time and experience. The biggest thing we need in the secondary is some health. The number of injuries this unit had last fall was incredibly high. If they can stay healthy in 2012 and a couple of the young guys emerge, this could be a very good unit.

If we land Morgan will he play a significant role in the secondary this year?

Completely personal opinion, but I say no. Especially if the other guys are healthy.

If he is as good as they say he will play on special teams at the very least, maybe some nickel. Keep in mind he is much more regarded than Desir or Reddish was and both of them played.

I don't see Morgan being that much further along than reddish, I don't think he makes an immediate impact. I am going to start tempering my immediate excitement for these NYC kids, personally would like to see them all redshirt

Ron Thompson I think will be an immediate player in our offense...hes a big guy and maybe a redzone threat...he will def push for some pt

He's not here in the spring. This was a post about the spring.

Not to hijack this post, but if you ask me, the longer Morgan waits to commit, the worse our chances get. He's waiting for something better to come along and it just might.

But hopefully I'm wrong. And in that case, I agree he is not an impact guy in year 1.

Good list in the original post.
Some DE/DTs not mentioned: Boatman, Robinson. In the returning pair of reserve DEs (Sharpe & Robinson), we have a decent start. The question will be whether any one on the squad can compete and win a spot away from those two.

On the OL, Lou Alexander might have the lead at the open OG spot. He and Robinson were healthy for Fall practices, but red-shirted, while several others were out with injuries. They look the part, and Alexander is easily old enough to be a senior.

WR -- the underclassmen should benefit with Lemon out for the Spring, questions about Sales, and Graham moving on. West has one spot but the others are wide open for the Spring. Hale? Kobena? Who emerges as a wing-back?

Position shifts? A DT moving to DE seems likely, but what else? Kinder to WR? Flips between CB and FS? Flips between WR and DB? Usually have surprises in the Spring, as the coaches look for ways to fill in soft spots.

Apart from questions about which reserves & RFs can step into leading roles in the classic Marrone Scheme (what we saw last season), we can hope for adjustments and new creativity. We don't have a classic FB -- will we play more sets with two RBs and get Moore on the field? We have talent in Broyld & Hunt, but if Nassib takes all the snaps in a pro set, these guys might sit. But Broyld is the second highest ranked recruit (only Thompson is higher) -- can't afford to have a kid like that redshirt, can we? Will we change up the schemes to get these guys on the field?

Did our OC and HC learn anything from watching bowl games?

Will we have wide open competition on the OL, or are the returning starters set in stone?

Lou didn't redshirt. He got in during the Cincy game as an extra blocker.

He doesn't show on the participation report for the Cinci game.

And it would be pretty stupid to blow his redshirt in game #11.

You were sitting in front of me when it happened. I even pointed to him running off the field.

I don't recall.

Did I go ballistic and threaten to kick Marrone in the kneecap?

Ron Thompson is 6' 4 210Lbs, more of WR build than a TE, Parris is A LOT bigger at 6 '3 245
