JB got on Coleman early "make a good move or you're going to sit tonight".

Don't have any issue with CJ forcing some shots if we are having scoring options. It's like watching gmac back in the day.

Obviously Cooney was huge tonight. His confidence and shooting form is night and day compared to last year. More legs in his shot and the catch and shoot three that he hit of the curl tonight was very gmac, rautins. 10-12 from a shooting guard is good against anyone.

The difference in the game however was our bigs exerting themselves in the second half. We're bigger than Cornell and the front line finally started to play like it early in the second.

Going forward we are going to need more scoring from Ennis. Might have been nerves or something, but he has to play better.

It'll be nice to get our most athletic player back on Tuesday

Good recap Jake, I think getting Grant back will be huge for this team, his athleticism alone is through the roof. He will help inside and open things up even more outside for Cooney/Ennis/GB etc. A bit dissapointed in Coleman, still looks light years away from his 5 star ranking. Obviously great game for Cooney, just hope most on here keep it in perspective, hes not going to shoot like that every night. Still that was a great performance.

I didn't watch the game, but my brother thought the difference in Cooney's rhythm was LESS legs (as in last year he always seemed to try to jump too high) and he was just much smoother.

That was the biggest issue I had with his form last year, by the way. It drove me nuts when he appeared to be trying to jump 5 feet in the air on every jumper. That's a sign of overthinking your jumper, and that leads to misses.

JB said after the game that the shots Ennis took tonight were shots he will make. Loved hearing that. Ennis didn't force anything, and even though he only had 1 point he still had 8 assists and 7 rebounds. Not worried about him one bit I think he will average 10-12

As for Cooney last year it seemed his release was off. I think it had to do with his added bulk, and was using too much legs. He would release shots either on the way up, or way down. Tonight everything look in sync. It seemed he wasn't trying to elevate as much, but releasing at the top of his shot. It looked drastically improved.

Watching the game on TV it seemed Ennis was having a poor game. Then I look at the box score and see his line...game high 8 rebs, 7 assists and just 2 TO's. So he's doing more than meets the eye. He'll shoot better. I've saw him several time last year and he can shoot the ball well. Thought MG played well tonight.

I still don't understand why Coleman hasn't developed a baby hook. With his body that shot should have been in his arsenal years ago.

I think Cooney has completely changed the way he shoots from when he was in HS and it took him two years to really get comfortable with it. It's the only way to explain why he looked so smooth in HS and so clunky the past two years. At one point during Midnight Madness I thought his release looked a lot more like GMac's.

My brother and I were just saying the exact same thing. Looked a ton like GMac. Gerry must have had him watching his old highlights before they work out

He was pulling the string tonight. I really think he'll be fine.
I love how he finds Cooney.

Sadly at this point Coleman feels like Trob to me. Let's hope he breaks out, but that first shot of his in the game was a dead ringer.

Ah, T-Rob. The world's greatest handball player who didn't realize he was playing basketball.

Haha. He did something though. Coleman does nothing.

You're correct about T-Rob. When I saw him on Marshall Street during his recruiting trip at about 2 AM, he was headed to the Sheraton and appeared to be on the verge of doing three somethings at once.

Nice! Lucky T-Rob!

TC's problem last season was not jumping too high, his problem was not jumping straight up.

Yeah, more of this. I said last year, if you watched him in warmups, he'd do it perfectly. Had a nice base, good elevation and form, and he made almost every shot. Once the games started, it was like his adrenaline kicked in and he just couldn't slow himself down. He'd be trying to shoot before his legs were ready. It was only a matter of time before the game finally started to slow down for him and it looks like it finally has. Even the way he was meticulously coming off of screens... you can tell that he finally feels comfortable. I've been telling my friends before the season even started that I think Cooney has the potential to end up fighting for a spot in the NBA someday. I think tonight was a good step in the right direction for him.

One more thing: I have to commend him for the shape that he's in. On the offensive end, he ran back and forth, curling off of screens the entire night, and he has one of the best motors on the defensive end that I've seen on this team in awhile. He takes tremendous care of his body.

I don't understand what our big men coach does with him. I have to hope that in practice, they drill him on extending his arm up on his release instead of throwing up double-clutch crap every time. He clears so much space with his body and then completely negates it by doing that crap. He has way too much talent to be such a waste.

There are too many openings for replies about the progress of our bigs going down since the loss of Bernie Fine that could be made with that post...kind of like in the old Sunday comics where you picked out how many things you could see wrong in the picture. Seriously though, these are problems that can be corrected, and hopefully will be sooner than later. It may be a matter of Coleman getting to a certain level of comfort and confidence like Cooney apparently has found.

I hope so. I don't think he's tall enough to be an NBA player or anything, but he's a good rebounder, he made some things happen defensively yesterday (which was very surprising). He clears space for himself with absolute ease offensively. He just can't seem to get past that mental block of extending his arm when he shoots. It's like he had a serious shoulder injury and he's scared of reinjuring it.

People bash the quality of instruction given by Hopkins, but I have to ask: what kind of coaching did Coleman get in high school? Four years of varsity play with the same guy and no one taught him a baby hook?

The Coleman situation continues to amaze.

Yes - it was great to watch. So active; haven't seen an SU offensive player work so hard for his spots in four years.

Yeah, no idea what HS hoops is like in Syracuse but you get the feeling he just bulldozed a bunch of 6'3" centers during HS. Definitely should have gone to an Oak Hill or something for a year. His whole repertoire seems to be to lower the ball, push once or twice, and then fling the ball and pray for a foul because he can't power over anyone any more.
