First off let me be clear I don't have any dislike for any player on the team. I firmly believe each player on the roster is a D1 athlete and that Syracuse offered them because they felt they could play at this level. I have nothing against any player and root for each of them. Many players on this board are consistently praised and lauded by many posters including myself. Secondly this is Div 1 Mens lacrosse at the highest possible level, the pinnacle of the sport. The expectations are high and so is the pressure. If your looking for nothing but positive ra ra comments I suggest the Div 3 forum over at lax power. In regards to your other questions I am assuming your referring to Lane and along with him the second mid line itself. I certainly don't go out of my way to put him or that line down but at some point you have to call a spade a spade. All three of the second mid fielders have been in the program for three years now were not talking about a true freshmen or somebody seeing the field for the first time as a redshirt frosh or something like that. The team has played 9 games now, I think were past the point where players are still trying to learn the position especially when all three played midfield last season. The second midlines play this year has been underwhelming and I think that's probably being kind. No one's saying they should be dropped from the team or placed on the scout team but when any unit isn't performing people are going to look for a change. When the second line struggles game after game with the same people out there inevitably people are going to look for changes. I feel for Lane as I think he's playing out of position, he's an attackmen trying to play midfield and it just isn't working. No one blames him, its extremely difficult to play Div 1 mens lacrosse period less excel at it. That being said this is an SU lacrosse message board sometimes the review and comments are positive sometimes there not. Players have taken a beating here at times whether it be Jordan Evans, Hill, Williams by some and even Coach Desko himself, it comes with the territory when you play at a school like SU. As for your other questions yes I do have some knowledge of the Lax program but of course I have no day to day information and clearly I am not at practice or privileged enough to the coaches thoughts and what they want from each player. I think its clear Coach Desko and his staff know a hell of a lot more about Lax then me or anyone on this board save for Woody. Myself and a few others have followed the program long enough where we see the motion offense and some of the intricacies and how the midfield and attacks are utilized be it from dodging or off ball movement etc etc. What do I know is that the second mid line has struggled to put up any consistent production and often has a point or less in most games. That isn't sustainable at Syracuse whether its a rebuilding year or not. I think everyone wants those guys to succeed and doesn't question the effort but the results simply aren't there. To your last point about overall negativity I guess you missed the first part of my post where I outlined about a half dozen positive aspects of the game or the dozens of other similar posts I have had this year where I have specifically praised the work of Mellen, Mullins, Salcido (many times), Dejoe, Donahue, Barber, Grimm, etc. Based on your post its clear your probably a relative or the parent of a player. Please know its nothing personal but its part of the process when your at this level. If you think that was bad I would avoid the Virginia lax board over on the Sabre or some of the threads on Laxpower, because they make this look like shangra la. Best advice I can give you is to stay away from these boards, things are said in the passion of the game that can be hurtful as a parent. Just know that everyone on here who is a Syracuse fan is rooting for each player on the team and for them to be successful. I would love to see the second line score 6 goals next Tuesday at Cornell with Lane leading the way, here's to hoping it happens.
