  • Dungey generally looks better on his long ball than his mid-range ball
  • If we're going with empty backfield for that long in the 1st half, we have to have a few designed runs for Dungey (even outside the red zone) to keep the Defense honest
  • Strickland looking a bit better, always looks better in the 2nd half when opposing D is tired. Had a great catch
  • Nice to see other guys step up at Wr. We're going to have a very tough time beating good teams throwing to just Ish and Erv, though they still should get the bulk of the looks since they're our best playmakers. Smart to give Nykeim some short passes to get his confidence up. Very pleased with Butler's TD catch.
  • Pierce plays like a man-great hands, stronger than he looks and wait for it...no penalties??
  • Am I the only one who waits for a flag every time we have a big play?
  • Think Robinson and Bennett are our best Defensive players. Slayton also crucial to our D.
  • Another good game from our starting CB's.
  • Nice to see Jordan Martin bounce back with a good game with several key plays. Happy to see Ellison get a cameo
  • 12 men on the field 3 times?I think twice after timeouts. Hope that should be a quick fix this week.
  • Isn't fun to have Murphy just give it out of the end zone instead of out of bounds? Good game from him.
  • Thought going for it on 4th down at end of game instead of kicking chip shot FG was risky and could have cost us, particularly with how good their Kicker was- 3 for 3, including a 56 yard FG. With 50 seconds left and no Timeouts, I'll take my chances with them driving the whole field and getting a TD. If you're worried about their kick returner, you can kick it out of bounce or a high, short kick that other teams have frequently done to us.
  • Happy with the win and feel we still have a solid chance to Bowl! Just need to cut down on the silly penalties

I thought going for it made sense.. chance to win the game and still tough for them with no timeouts to go 95 and they still needed 60 to get a FG. if we make it maybe we dont get it into the endzone and they start at the 30-35 so 60 yds for a win with no TOs and only need about 20 to have a last 2nd shot..

no brainer if we had a solid running game.. still a simple play and we didnt make the catch.

If we make it, we start taking a knee.

Nice summary but isn't Franklin one of our best defensive players?

If we make it, we start taking a knee.
If we don't, 2 long passes put them in FG range. IMO harder to go 70 yards and get in the end zone in 50 seconds with no timeouts.

I think Bennett is our best LB

I agree, instinctually, Paris is our best LB all around. Sideline to sideline, jumping gaps, making reads, blitzing, or dropping back in coverage; PB IMHO is our most versatile and best backer. Zaire is our leader.

Yes it's harder but they will settle for a field goal to tie down 3 while being forced to go for a TD down 6. Worst case we go to OT.

Like this post.

My big positives are:
Ish can win 50/50 balls if he's single-covered against almost anyone (imo). That is huge.

Strick just isn't a natural RB at this level. He had a good game and I'll never knock him for lack of effort, but he just doesn't have the vision and wiggle of the RB we will need to get this O going in fifth gear. That's fine. He's heady and a good athlete.

The overall improvement on D is very impressive.

I'm fine with Dino's aggressive play-calling. Onside kicks, going for it on fourth. This is who we are. There can be no hesitation with these calls and with each one, it builds our character as a team.

I love Dungey, but he'll never be an exact fit for this offense. It's fine. He's very talented. If he stays healthy, we'll be in good hands.

I don't think the question is the odds of a FG versus a TD. I think it's the odds of a first down versus a FG. We have maybe a 80% chance of kicking the FG there. And maybe a 50% chance of making the first down. A FG does not guarantee a win. But a first down does. Now balance the sure win versus the chance of winning. I'm not sure what I would have done. But I'd like to think I'm going for the win.

You go for the field goal there is a chance we miss, gets blocked, the other team has a big return. Or we stop them.

You go for it there is the chance you end the game, They get the all at their own 5 with no timeouts, we fumble and they get a return.

I think my biggest concern is the blocked field goal. Highest chance of changing the game and it isn't exactly our go to unit.

Going for it instead of kicking the field goal was 100% correct:
1. FG gets blocked they most likely return it.
2. They have one of the best KO return men in the nation. Our kickoffs where good this game, but an adventure other games.
3. As we saw even if we don't make it they have a very long field to get in FG range even with their kicker.
4. They had zero time outs.

On fourth down:

We gain half a yard and it’s first down and we knee out the game. Our coach is known for his offense. Yes the running game isn’t our greatest asset but I guess I would rather the ball be in the offenses hands and rely on us to put the game away. Especially when we were inside the 5 yard line. Pitts offense was on their heels regardless and starting in the end zone with no timeouts left. With all that said, the play was there for 1 yard, dungeys pass just happened to be a little behind Pierce. If he puts it into his stomach he had a head of steam and the result would have been a first down.

All good points but

5. No PAcuse-Baby, yet? ;)

On 3rd and one or 4th and one I love love love the quick snap QB sneak. Worked again on Saturday.

Iave no problem with going for it on 4th down: you could argue either way, (see above). My problem is with the playcall. The shovel pass can work if the defense has to fan out to cover receivers. On 4th and 1, you are going into the teeth of the defense with everyone in the box.

It hit him in the hands and would have been enough for the first down. It was the execution that failed, not the design.

My only complaint is that he doesn't do it nearly enough. Babers has been more hesitant to go against the meathead philosophies than I thought he'd be, which has been disappointing. He should go for it on 4th down way more than he does.
