8. Syracuse — The Orange have blown leads at Johns Hopkins and Duke in the last two forgettable weeks. Syracuse has been unable to get a defensive stop or critical face-off with the game on the line. Being outscored 5-1 in the fourth quarter at Duke hurts badly. Wins over Army and Albany are the bright spots to a season that's been suddenly steered off the rails.

Midfielder Sergio Salcido (4, 2) may have the quickest first step in DI, separating himself from the defender with a burst of speed and change of direction. I like this kid more and more every time I watch SU. I'd pole him and short No. 22. The Orange defensive concepts and adhering to team slide rules need a major overhaul. Going zone against Duke was a smart move. Letting Deemer Class catch and shoot in space was poor execution and recognition. Off-ball crease defense was non-existent on the Chad Cohan game-winner.

Fundamentals dictate that the defender’s stick must be on his man, with the head on a swivel. See the ball, see my man. See the ball, see my man. Talk. This isn't advanced stuff.

This says it all:

"I'd pole him (Salcido) and short No. 22."
