NC State is the 27th ranked team by NET in the country. Going down there and getting a victory would have been a great win for this team. I was so excited for the possibility that I forgot we had a game until I saw the gameday thread on this board. I didn't see us having much chance winning. Qadir Copeland is an exciting, talented player, exactly the sort Red should recruit and develop. Copeland was very good in this game, scoring 19 points on 5-9 shooting and 9-9 on FT, with 9 assists, 4 steals, and only 4 turnovers. His season averages are very good, 14.3 points, 6.3 assists, he's even shooting .476 from 3pt range on 2 attempts per game. His personality can be challenging, but being a top athlete usually comes with an ego. Coaches have to deal with a lot, and in college basketball, recruiting and managing players is more important than actually coaching the team in a lot of ways. As good as his normal statistics are, the advanced metrics love him even more, 23.3 PER, 9.8 BPM, 125 ORtg and a 4.2 DBPM. Depending on which advanced stats you use, Copeland is either as good as or better than Freeman this season. The game isn't much to talk about. We got pounded on the boards, made 7 fewer shots and 6 fewer free throws. The frustrating thing is that we once again turned a fairly close game, down 9 with 5:32 remaining in the game, into a big loss. Freeman had a great game, 24 points and 10 boards on efficient shooting, but the other starters contributed little rebounding, inefficient scoring and little defense. The subs contributed 4-11 shooting, only 6 rebounds and negative assist to turnover, and their defense didn't exactly help.
