Louisville beat North Carolina State 34-20 in Raleigh, overcoming a 7-10 halftime deficit. They were out-gained 326-377 and out-first downed 17-25. Like us they had a big third quester in which Micale Cunningham threw three TD passes totaling 117 yards. Also, just like us, they were +3 in turnovers. Cunningham was 13/20 for 242 yards, 4TDs and 0 interceptions. Tutu Atwell had 5 catches for 110 yards and a score. But the Cardinals only ran for 77 yards on 39 carries. Devin Leary was 24 for 44 for NC State for 243 yards and 2 scores. He had one interception. State ran for 134 yards on 35 carries. Louisville coach Scott Satterfield: "We want to run the football, and if guys are playing us one-on-one on the outside, we've got to take our shots. We connected on a lot of those shots."

Wake Forest got flattened by Clemson 3-52 after losing to the Tigers 3-63 the year before. Last year’s game came a week after Syracuse almost beat Clemson in their own place. After that game the Tigers won their next ten games by a total of 522-120, clobbering Alabama in the national title game 44-16. This year again they didn’t dominate at the start but, since pulling out a game at North Carolina they have won their last six games 315-58, (52.5-10). In other words, they are clobbering everybody on another quest to win it all. The point is, Wake’s result against them doesn’t mean they are a bad team. The Tigers out-gained the Deacons 515-105 and out-first downed them 26-5. They out-rushed them 168-64 and out-passed them 348-41. Jamie Newman was 6 for 14 with 2 interceptions. Surprisingly, Clemson was credited with only 2 sacks and 1 hurry. But they had 10 TFLs. Wake rushed for 64 yards on 37 carries.

The ranking of these performances if obvious: Louisville 1 Wake Forest 2. But that doesn’t necessarily tell us how difficult the teams will be for Syracuse to beat.

im still trying to understand why wake didnt really try to throw at all to stay in the game.

IMHO, Cards would crush WF if they played again, for the simple reason that Wake has lost both wide receiver superstars (Sage Surratt and Scotty Washington) for the year. They had both of those guys against Louisville, which is a big reason they scored 59 against us. They had neither of them against Clemson.

I will be expecting a Syracuse win against Wake Forest.
