1. Louisville
2. UCONN
3. Rutgers
4. Pitt
4. USF
6. Syracuse - The facilities are a bit dated, so it was welcome news to hear Syracuse will undergo some major upgrades to the locker room, student-athlete lounge, cafeteria, Hall of Fame lobby, and team auditorium. The Carrier Dome hasn't provided much of a home-field advantage of late.
7. Cincinnati
8. Temple

There is no way that the Cincinnati facilities are below those of Syracuse University, even though the Bearcats do not have an indoor practice facility.

The Athletic Village at Cincinnati is most impressive.

That SU is really number 7 in the Big East, once again, explains what has happened on the Hill since the turn of the century.

The fall from grace was not due to coaching - it was due to lack of investment in the program.

In any endeavor, private or public, investment in the future is crucial.

and in reality all these upgrades will only put us somewhere in the lower-middle tier of the ACC ... the school could use a $50m-$60m 'donation' to overhaul all the athletic facilities and bring them to where they should be.

Looks like they lost points for Nippert Stadium. Article mentions it specifically saying it's old, small, needs improvements (capacity is less than 30k right?). Even though the Carrier Dome may not be adequate or modern enough in the eyes of some (not me), it has to score higher than Nippert. So I guess in the ranker's mind, the athletic village didn't offset what we have in place for non-stadium facilities.

Agree that it has been a big problem for SU since 2000, but at least that's well known by those running the show now, and more money is on the horizon...

True.

Al Davis. :noidea:

This really chaffs my ass...

So the school is doing a multi-million dollar renovation of manley, the locker rooms, a new practice facility along with dome updates...and that still isn't good enough? Now these newly renovated facilities need an "overhaul"? No sir, I don't buy it.

Why not just raze the entire south campus...start from scratch...and create a purpose-built football factory complete with a monorail system from manley to the dome.

Nippert holds 35k. I don't even think there's enough room for temporary seating.

the amount of money SU is talking about spending for near future builds / upgrades is just a fraction of what is already being spent right now (shovel ready projects) by our competitors ... not to mention all the other future fundraising and projects our competition is planning for their programs.

SU is seriously behind the eight ball financially when it comes to this. They need an immediate influx of cash (preferably in the $20m-$30m range) to get up to par - then they need an additional $60m-$70m for future, long-term upgrades / improvements.

This is the nature of the beast today. Hopefully they figure out a way or find a group of 'program investors' to help fund this.

is it??

I think that the dumber this facilities arms race gets, the less relative disparities in facilities spending will matter. diminishing returns

i'm more concerned that we get our facilities up to an adequate level in absolute terms (good places to learn, work out, practice).

the more every school spends, the dumber the differentiating additions will have to get.

housing analogy - the relative difference between a $400k house and a $200k house is greater (extra bedrooms, pools, extra garage space, etc) than the difference between a $4M and $2M house (5 more places to take a dump, stupid waterfalls, panic rooms? i don't know i'm just making it up)

i hope that once we're adequate, we spend our money smartly without looking at relative disparities as obviously bad things

Genuine, Bona fide, Electrified, Six-car Monorail?
