Boston College lost at Clemson 7-59
The Tigers seem to be gearing up for their playoff run just as they did last year. They aren’t just scraping by teams any more. BC, who had run all over NC State last week, got 97 yards in 44 carries. They were 6 for 18 passing for 80 yards. The Tigers ran for 302 yards and passed for 372 yards. That’s 674 yards to 177. They had 36 first downs to 10. There was only one turnover in the game. I wonder what “Winning Plays” would look like for this game?
Duke lost at North Carolina 17-20
The Blue Devils looked pretty good when they won 4 of 5 after an impossible task against Alabama. But now they’ve lost two in a row to fall to 4-4. It was a back and forth game between mediocre teams, (UNC is also 4-4). Duke kicked a field goal but fell behind 3-14, then came back to make it 17-14 before the Tar Heels kicked a couple of field goals to win it. The Heels ran for 205 and passed for 227 for a total of 432. The Blue Devils passed for 229 but could only run for 100. The had 4 turnovers to 3 in a sloppy game. Quentin Harris was 22 for 39 with 1TD and 1 pick. He normally gets positive rushing yards but was -9 in this game. He was sacked 5 times. Deon Jackson got 91 yards rushing on 19 carries but didn’t score. Scott Bracey had 5 catches for 62 yards and a score.
Louisville beat Virginia 28-21 at home
The Cardinals have bounced back to a 5-3 record and beaten the team that was expected to win the Coastal Division. Three straight second half touchdowns turned a 7-14 deficit into a 28-14 lead before the Whos scored with 21 seconds left. They recovered and on-sides kick but could not score. The Cavs were the better running team, 233-133 but the Cardinals were much better through the air, 227-78. Virginia had the only two turnovers in the game. Micale Cunningham was 6 for 10 for 126 yards, including a 77 yard score to Tulu Atwell. He also had 97 yards rushing on 11 carries, one a 48 yarder. But Javian Hawkins led in rushing with 136 yards in 28 carries and 2 scores.
Wake Forest had the week off.
My ranking of the teams based on how they played in Week 9:
1) Louisville- They’ve got another one of those dual threat quarterbacks.
2) Duke- They lost a close one to a close rival
3) Boston College: How much of it was Clemson and how much of it was them?
