Ranking SU’s future opponents is easy this week- there’s only one. So let’s take a look at Wake Forest’s performance against Duke and what they’ve done so far this season. They beat Duke 39-27 in Winston-Salem. Considering we beat Duke 49-6 in Durham, that’s encouraging, especially Duke’s 27 points. But that’s a little deceiving. Damond Philyaw-Johnson had two kick-off returns for touchdowns. The Duke offense only generate one TD on its own. Jawhar Jordan might be a threat to duplicate Philyaw-Johnson’s achievement- except we likely won’t be playing him in order to protect his redshirt status.
Wake out-gained Duke 618-290. (By comparison, we out-gained Duke by 395-279 and Louisville gained 608 yards on us.) They had 26 first downs to 13 and were +3 in turnovers. They rushed for 334 yards and passed for 290. Jamie Newman was 114 for 25 for 284 yards but only 1 score. But he also rushed for 144 yards on 29 carries and scored another TD. That’s 428 yards of total offense. Kenneth Walker rushed for another 113 yards on 17 carries and a score and Cade Carney added 71 yards on 19 carries and another score. Kendall Hinton caught 6 passes for 189 yards and a score. They have a kicker, Nick Sciba , who has a record streak of 32 consecutive made field goals and punter named Dom Maggio, (Dom Maggio?) who is averaging 47.2 yards per kick. We are about to play an extremely potent team that could very well do to us what Louisville did.
