Yep.  I don't really know what Shafer was looking for at the position, but it's tough to knock him. Fredericks was kind of the combination of all the things you want from a back, except Dino didn't like him (I don't know the reasons and don't want to start an argument here by speculating) and now he's gone.  Guys like Phillips, Strickland and Neal were fine to play the wing in that bizarre Lester offense, but were really too small to all be feature backs (still have hopes for Neal with another year of strength and conditioning, he has good balance and speed, vision improved throughout the year).

I think Dino really wants a one cut and go kind of back, but the big backs that can really move and are natural runners tend to play for more established programs.  With the weakness in the interior o-line, this team really needed a delone carter type.  Someone who always breaks contact and gets positive yards, but will never go for 50, 60 yards.  The o-line should take a step up next year though, but i think its still two years away from becoming a good unit.

What's scary is, every year for the next three years, we play Dillon (absolute beast), Akers (total package), and Etienne (most explosive kid outside of Lamar Jackson).  Someone said Wake's entire line is back, and they were really clicking at the end of the year.  Hymes is back at NC State and he was all-league. Even if we improve, we still will likely have a worse running game than almost all of our opponents in 2018.
