I'm not discounting our flaws in this area (which are real), but I also think the difference was overstated a bit last night. It seemed, especially very early on, that GTs long shots were so bad that they were just bouncing weird places.

i'm also assuming that our problems in that area will be mitigated somewhat when we can get out running more, which should be the majority of our remaining games.

We don't have Derrick Coleman this year. We don't have any one similar to DC either. Rebounding for the most part is God given, you either have it or you don't. I don't buy the "bad bounce" theory, it's all about body positioning and desire. We do have size which helps against inferior opponents but means little against upper echelon teams. We are primed for an early exit in the tourney.

GTowns first 5 minutes had to be some of the worst bricklaying/airballfest i have ever seen

exactly...and you don't position yourself to rebound on the long side or where an airball would go (that means you'd be out of position for where they most often go). in the 2nd half when they were more 50/50 opportunities, we seemed to fare better.

There are too many games where there are long wierd rebounds and we don't get enough of them. We just don't hustle enough. There were several of these last night where we had an even or better chance of getting to the ball but just get to it fast enough. Our lack of rebounding prowess has been noted since early in the season. But as long as we were causing so many turnovers it didnt matter. But now, our deficit on the boards is growing while the turnovers we create are diminishing, at least against the better teams. And coupled most guys racking up multiple games going cold from outside now, we are looking increasingly vulnerable in terms of the magic carpet ride in March we are all hoping for.

Our guards leak out too soon instead of helping with rebounding. Our bigs do not box out. They just try to get as good as position as they can. Overall, we do not have guys who just gotta have the ball and go after rebounds like that.

As someone said in an earlier thread, if someone doesn't hustle after a rebound JB needs to pull him like he pulls Scoop and others who make bonehead plays. Maybe like Pavlov's dog, our players would respond to that. JB needs to light into these guys in practice too who don't hustle for 50/50 balls.

I'd also bring in DC to give a rebounding lecture/ tutorial.

Guards? Joseph is constantly looking to sprint out too...which is good in some spots, but he's looking to run way too much.
