SU is a private school - with a very specific type of alumni. Most move away after college and don't care about the program. As a result we do NOT get the level of donations that schools like Michigan/Oregon/Texas get. Miami might the best example of a private school that's finding success but even they had a 20 year drought of mediocrity.

We are known as a basketball school. Currently a struggling basketball school. But it's been 30 years since people took SU football seriously. We have a season here or there where the stars align but we are a mediocre program in a mediocre conference. And that's a step up from where we were 20 years ago in basketball heavy Big East.

The weather here does suck. The amount of snow Syracuse gets is a turnoff for many recruits. Sure Madison/Ann Arbor are cold but they aren't in snow belts the way that Syracuse is. Ann Arbor gets 1/2 the snow we do...1/2.

Syracuse sucks as a town. There's not much here to lure recruits in terms of city life. Everything is closed by 9:00pm.

Our NIL bag is tiny compared to other schools. I think I saw we paid Williams around 600k. I think the Duke QB got 4 million.

What you have left is a program that hovers around .500 and once in a while catches lightning in a bottle with a Dungey/McCord type of year.

I'm sure the recruiting board has a good history of QBs that committed elsewhere. Maybe you should give that a good read.
