...that joining the ACC is the best thing that has happened to SU football since [insert era, player, event etc]? Personally, I think we will play well Saturday and I think we have every chance to pull an historic upset, but whatever happens, the buzz around the Clemson game is exciting and NEVER would have been matched by ANY Big East football game. The excitement is truly something money can't buy. (However, it doesn't get any better having the excitement and an extra $20 million or so.) IMHO, HE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED saved the SU football program (period!) and left us with a competitive roster of players (remember Hunt, Run DMC, GMII, Broyld, Clark, etc are his recruits). It is questionable if we would have even been invited to the ACC had the misery of the GROB era continued. We were also fortunate to have Scott Shafer in the wings (who I believe will prove to be a terrific college coach). If you believe at all in star ratings, our recruiting has picked up every year. We now routinely get three star players and are in the conversation with recruits we never would have had a shot at even three years ago. The future is brighter than at any time in the last decade. If we have a tough season, so what? SU football is on the march and we will be a force to recon with in the ACC for years to come. With the exception (for the time being) of Clemson and FSU, there is no team in the ACC whose football program we can't match. It is always important to remember how difficult it is to sustain a winning program. Clemson is a good example as any. They are on a roll right now but it wasn't long ago that they were just another team. Since 2000, Clemson's win pct has ranged between 46.2% (2010) and last year's 84.6%. Quite a range. Clemson's 5 year moving average win pct since 2000 has been between 52.9% and 84.6%. Again, quite a range. I use Clemson simply because they are a well run program with lots of money and a rabid fan base and are currently on a roll. They simply illustrate they they are not some perennial super power. These days nobody is (yes, even Alabama). Tajh Boyd has made all the difference between a good team and a great team. The margin between 7-6 or 8-5 and 11-2 is very, very thin in college football - literally can be a handful of players. So, we go into the ACC with our heads held high, welcoming the competition and a great many of new friendly rivals. Let's start with welcoming Clemson with class and then locking them in the dome and beating hell out of them! Go Cuse!
