Request by WVU to dismiss Big East suit denied

"Providence County Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein rejected all of the university’s arguments for dismissal.

The school had argued the Rhode Island courts did not have the authority to decide the matter and should defer to the courts in West Virginia, where the first civil suit was filed in this dispute.
The university also claimed it can’t be sued in Rhode Island because it has sovereign immunity as an agency of the state of West Virginia and was not properly notified by the Big East of its lawsuit."

Only a matter of time before the pols get into the mix.

WVU is in a tough spot. Now that the SEC has released their 2012 schedule with Mizzou, the B12 really needs WVU. They've painted themselves into a corner.

Let those toothless wonders do all the heavy lifting.

once lville also leaves and possibly a couple others it will be a moot point because there won't be a bi east. wvu, su and pitt should just not show up for their games and go play in their new conferences. let the big east sue. there won't be anyone left. the big east is only doing this because they are the jilted lover. they never did anything to make this a viable conference. when they started reaching our from the traditional east teams, they declared they were scrambling.

If you read the article, it appears that WVU will be playing football in the Big East next year unless it wants to expose itself to some serious penalties. They have a right to choose their conference as does SU and Pitt, but they participated in the 27 month requirement to allow the Big East and those schools that are left time time to rebuild.

1) "once lville also leaves and possibly a couple others it will be a moot point"

What does that mean?
Are you predicting UL is invited to the Big 12 to play this coming September? And that UL would also violate their contract?

2) "the big east is only doing this because they are the jilted lover"

Are you serious? The Big East has only 7 teams next year if WVU violates its contract. The teams of the Big East deserve time to rebuild. The new teams aren't coming till 2013.

3) "they never did anything to make this a viable conference"

Is that supposed to be a legal argument??????

A Rhode Island state court judge rules against WVU. Wow, that's a real shocker.
