Played for SU in the late 1960s, including one over-lapping season with Jim Boeheim and Dave Bing. Really nice guy ... I never saw him play, but I met him at several reunion type events. He was very loyal to SU basketball and to its players, both current and former.

Richie was the point guard on the SU teams i first fell in love with. He could hit long range bombs like Joe Girard but was even more famous of going aggressively after lose balls, all of which he felt were his property. Every one he didn't get was a steal, as far as he was concerned. He loved to launch himself over the press table or into the stands to save a ball and the fans loved him for it.

We will miss you Rich. He was the sparkplug on teams that included Rick Dean, Vaughn Harper, George Hicker, etc. He was really a fun player to watch !!!

Why? Both Richie and Joe could hit long range bombs.

I agree with you. I was poking fun at the sentiment by more than a couple here that Joe can’t shoot.
