For those who watched WSYR Ch 3 Monster Movie Matinee as a kid of the 60's and 70s...he was one of the best. Awesome intro skits and of course the movies: Tarantula, The Mummy, Frankenstein, Creature From The Black Lagoon , etc...tons of cheesy 1950's/early 60's horror flicks.

I remember Allan well.

Used to watch either Abbott and Costello or the Ma and Pa Kettle movies before MMM came on at noon, I think.

Didn't Allan also appear in another morning show...maybe Romper Room?

He gave me many hours of enjoyment as a kid. Thanks Alan and condolences to his many friends and family...

Was this guy Dr. Witty? Or was that after?

His character on MMM was called Dr E Nick Witty. I think they only showed his hand...his face was said to be so deformed that it could not be seen.

Epa and the hand, remember it well. I hadn't seen some of those movies for decades until MST3K dusted them off, especially the cheapo remakes of the Corman pix, like the one with the aliens that were defeated by automobile headlights. So many good creepy memories.

Channel 5's "Eivom" was a pale imitation.

I've been a life long horror movie fan, and MMM helped cultivate that interest when I was a kid.

Used to love that show.

It was Epal, not Epa. Epal was Lape spelled backwards. His real name was William Lape. His stage name was Bill Everett.

Here's the other part of the story...Bill Lape...who played Epal...was probably better know for his other recurring role in Syracuse television history - He was Salty Sam...of Salty Sam's Super Saturday. A variety show for kids of sorts.

I remember Salty Sam's Super Saturday !!! He would do that bubble gum bubble blowing contest & play the funky horn music...

Monster Movie Matinee was a favorite of mine as a child. It was long before all the modern Elm Street & Friday the 13th films. It was OLD SCHOOL horror...

Was Salty Sam the guy who used to show the Popeye Cartoons? BTW, anyone else think Olive Oyl was a slut?

Is there another term for a skinny, ugly slut?

BTW, the NOW organization just boycotted you...

He scared the heck out of me when I was a kid.

The mysterious Dr. Witty with his hand and voice was a great TV character.

He and Epal - Bill Everitt - were great.
