RIP Bill Carey

Bill was a colleague and a friend. We lost an incredible broadcast journalist last night. He was an old school, get the facts, report the facts kind of guy who also had a knack for telling absolutely amazing stories. Great reporter, great writer, and an even better man. Even now, so many years after working with him, I think about what Bill Carey would do in certain situations. He literally influenced an entire generation of broadcast journalists who got their start in the Syracuse area. He was the gold standard by which all other reporters in Syracuse measured themselves. No one ever really came close. He was a network reporter who chose to stay in Syracuse. Frankly, that's a disservice to him as I think he's a LOT better than almost every network reporter I know.

He'll be missed, but I hope that even now he's breaking all the big stories in the hereafter. I can't think of him doing anything else.

I see where ex-Syracuse TV guy Andy Brigham also passed away recently. I guess he was working in New Orleans after many years in the Syracuse market.

Well said. A great reporter and great man. Could not have put it better.

I was terrified of him when I worked with him. I think I would have gotten along with him well now. But being straight out of college and working in the same newsroom as a crusty 30+ year vet was intimidating as hell.
