RIP Billy Tubbs

I’m heartbroken to know he was 85!! Where does the time go?

I remember a famous quote by Abe Lemmons to Billy Tubbs. Tubbs asked him if he jogged and Abe said “If I’m gonna die, I wanna be sick”

I remember his sneering at SU and the Big East when he beat us in '84. Also the huge scores he loved to roll up over over-matched teams. I loved it when we beat his YCU team for Christmas in 1997 in Puerto Rico.

A fun coach, perhaps not the cleanest, but he ran up tempo and he rarely called off the dogs. The man liked to smirk and roll up the points. When I think of Billy Tubbs, I think of Mookie Blaylock and ultimately Pearl Jam. Strangely, Blaylock and Tubbs actually looked alike.

Danny Manning, Larry Brown and Scooter Berry stole Tubbs title in April of 1988.
