I didn't realize that he and Fabian and Frankie Avalon all grew up together in South Philadelphia and thanks to shows like American Bandstand and its predecessor became household names. Pretty cool. And thanks to Grease, everyone will also know about Bobby Rydell. RIP.

Chubby Checker was also from South Philly. American Bandstand, live from 45th & Market. I remember my Mom watching the show and pointing out kids from the neighborhood.

Rydell actually had a decent voice and could sing. The best singer of the Philly bunch.
