Billy worked for my father during the summers along with a couple other members of those teams.
He actually got Brominski, Kevin O'Neil and I believe Nick Sudano (could be wrong here) and a handful of others to spend an afternoon with my high school team when I was a Freshman or a Sophomore. They just came in and hung out with us one afternoon. The next week, Brominski caught THE pass. It's the time where my love for SU really grew into a passion.
Even as young men, they would email us, hang out with us, mentor us. They were just fantastic guys. Very fond memories of them. He once told us, well one of his SU teammates did, that Billy was from a rough section (Bayonne, NJ), and that as a young kid, would encounter multiple fights a week by walking to and from school. he did things most wouldn't in order to better himself.
My father was heartbroken this morning as the news broke on Facebook. It's a terrible thing. My father enjoyed having those young guys around so much in the summers, something he looks back on very fondly. He should be remembered as more than just a letter winner and starter on the OL during the good years, because, he was a lot more than that. As are most.
RIP Billy, I know you'll be missed.
