The head coach of maybe the greatest turnaround story in the history of college football. The program was about to be dropped by the school and you could get free tickets at Burger King to go to the games. And within a couple of years, they were the program every school in the country was chasing.

probably inspired the ncaa football dynasty series with his turnaround of miami. a very funny guy from interviews i've seen. completely changed the game of football forever. legend in the game.

Kinda baffling that he is not in the CFB Hall of Fame. Detractors cite his W-L record, but context matters. He picked up a downtrodden UM program and made it legendary, he went to Louisville when they were nothing (10 losing seasons in 12 years prior to his arrival), birthed a solid FAU program and got a stadium built (at FAU).

My best guess is that there is some lingering Miami bravado that still bother others. Too bad he won’t be able to enjoy it with some of his legendary players.

I say this as someone who loves Coach Mac... Coach Mac in the HOF but not Schnellenberger just doesn't make sense at all.

Agree that is a crime Schnellenberger isn't in the HOF

As someone already alluded to, he is proof that you are not always what your record says you are.

I didn't much about him aside from him starting the UM dynasty and starting the FAU program. That was a cool article.
