RIP Jerry West age 86

I hated how they portrayed West as a socially awkward spaz on the HBO Lakers show. I don’t understand how you can just misrepresent someone like that with no consequences.

An absolute legend. Amazing college and NBA player who was successful in everything he touched. RIP, Jerry.

Very sad but I think he had a pretty great life. No bad for a guy born into poverty in West Virginia.

He used to attend the BET every year. Saw him there many times. He was nice to cto and me when we stopped by and said hello.
I always made it a point to say. "Great to see you back in the Garden, Jerry!" RIP Jerry.

One of the greatest players of all-time, and by all accounts a true gentleman.

All accounts except for HBO’s

Agree. It is unfortunate. There was no need to make a man who was intelligent, very good at his job and well respected into a cartoonish buffoon.

The writers had a great story to tell and make some bizarre mischaracterizations to try and make a 'sexier' story. It is too bad better writers were not hired to write those scripts.

West had a very hard childhood in rural West Virginia. He slept with a shotgun under his bed out of fear of his abusive father, and had to take vitamin supplements because he was so frail. To overcome all of that and achieve what he did in life is remarkable.

I actually found that show very entertaining and was appalled when it ended abrupt - on the note of the Celtics winning the title with some still pictures representing what happened later. But maybe the whimper of an ending was appropriate considering the hatchet job they did on Jerry. I read his autobiography and the book the series was on as I watched it and Jerry, despite some deep-seated problems, was nothing like that.

I had the photo that became the logo on the back of my bedroom door growing up. All time favorite player any sport. He definitely had his demons.

That's why this Lakers fan refused to watch that garbage show.
