RIP Jimmy Collins

Here's a pretty good article too. The legend will be missed. It really is amazing when you peel back the layers of Syracuse and CNY basketball (and other sports) what you'll find. Higher level players than most realize. Corcoran has had their fair share of sports players besides Jimmy C. I'm sure there's some on the board.

One of the greatest basketball players ever out of CNY, and this area has produced a lot of them.

RIP Jimmy.
1970 was the 1st year I started following CBB. I was 10 years old and even though I didn't grow up in CNY, I was well aware of Jimmy Collins thru my 1st ever Street and Smith's. All these guys were like bigger than life. Not a lot of players etch out a successful life long career coaching but Collins did. It's sad to see any of them passing at a young age. 1970 NCAA Men's Basketball All-Americans - Wikipedia

Sports Illustrated Feb 12th 1968.
Pretty cool you can click through the whole magazine, never saw this before.

There are few better sophomore guards in the country than Jimmy Collins, who scored 22 points and steered the Aggies through the rough moments of the Hardin-Simmons game. Collins, who gained considerable fame on the playgrounds of Syracuse by battling Dave Bing to standoffs in one-on-one contests, is a superior ball handler and driver and he has a fine shooting touch. Swirling sleepy-eyed through the action, Collins looks as relaxed as he is on his popular campus radio show.

I knew about Collins CNY roots, but why did he not come to SU? And why did be get all the way to NM State? That's a long way away.

They had guys from the Albany area on their roster at that time as well so there was a connection.

I was looking to see if Bruce Pearl had tweeted anything about this. He did not.
He’s better off not saying a thing. He’s scum for a lot of reasons but what he did to Jimmy was the worst. Apparently Jimmy thought so too.

That was a great class. It seems those guys were lighting it up only yesterday. RIP, Jimmy.

Charlie Criss 8 seasons NBA from Yonkers, and home grown Roy Neal a 6-6 forward

Yes, I was wondering the same thing.
