RIP, John. A nice guy, dealt a bad hand by the changing conference landscape and saddled with a hybrid conference doomed to fail.

He is right.
Tranghese wanted to protect the status quo so he could protect the smaller basketball schools like Providence College.
Tranghese tried to give the ACC Miami, Syracuse football in the early 90s as long as they kept their basketball with the Big East.

Marinatto seemed like a good guy but was completely in the wrong job during the time of college expansion.
He was a peace time leader not a war time leader and the Big East was in a war with the other power football leagues for survival.
