RIP Mel Stottlemyre

Excellent pitcher, great pitching coach, and really good guy. RIP, Mel.

Name I grew up with.

I remember watching one of the old timers games and they had Rick Ceron miced up. Stottlemyre was pitching while Ceron was at bat and Ceron was cracking up because he said Stottlemyre was throwing real heat. "Geez, Mel, this is the old ttimer's game, I'm not catching up to that!"

RIP. I remember going to watch his son Todd as a kid when he played for the Chiefs.

Anyone who can fight cancer for almost 20 years has my utmost respect. RIP Mel.

I can remember when he was a "rookie sensation". Darn, I'm old.

Yanks would not have won it in '64 without him. I was looking forward to that World Series vs the Phillies.
