I want so badly for this kid to have a Nichols-type career, where the light goes on as a junior and he morphs into a fantastic small forward.

I don't think I've ever seen a more stiff and mechanical offensive player at SU in recent memory. He plays basketball like I dance when I'm sober... just needs to loosen those shoulders and relax.

It is weird how fans pick different players as their favorites and a lot of times it is not able to be explained but for me Roberson is one of my two favorite guys on this team. For no other reason then how he rebounds the ball. We seem to get a lot of guys who do because it is part of the game but he seems to really love it.

You can see him thinking out there when the ball is in his hands. I think that will change with experience and his post/drive moves will be less predetermined and more fluid.

Considering his defense and rebounding to this point, I think we're looking at a monster if he gets his offensive game going. A serviceable midrange jumper would do wonders.

Me too. I love the rebounding. Yesterday when he couldn't actually get to the offensive board because he was slightly out of position and was going up against the taller player, he tipped the ball away to one of his team mates. Love that effort on the boards. I can't remember seeing someone like him in a while here.

The other thing about him that I find intriguing is the occasional play where he stops thinking, like Brook says, and just drives to the hoop or pops a jumper. He actually looks fluid and smooth on those. Just need to string more of those together.

Its amazing to me how much his defense on the wing has improved over the course of the season. Its pretty good right now and you can see he will get even better with more time. Great rebounder who is so active and disruptive that some times he allows our other guys to get the rebound just by occupying players.

His offense is so weird right now but with Chris out for at least a little while we should see him get more comfortable there as well. He can score, has a decent jumper and some fairly good skills he just doesn't seem to quite get it at this point. He will.

He's not a Small Forward-He's a power Forward

Agreed and those expecting that small forward game from him may be disappointed but he does have some shooting and ball skills that once better developed and with more comfortability will make him more of a combo although his natural position is certainly the 4 and not the 3.

Tyler has strong hands. Rarely does he fumble a rebound that is within his reach. He's like a human vacuum at times.

As he has learned the zone he has also learned to be in great position to rebound whether it be strong or weak side. He may be one of the best ever on the wing at getting into prime rebounding position since we went to the extended zone we currently play. Add his hands and pursuit of the ball and he just gobbles rebounds up.

roberson is hesitent on the offensive end. hes afraid to . but he gives so much on the boards and the light finally went off with him in the zone. once the half court game comes around, he will be a stud. also, kid will put on some weight which will only help.

Would it be crazy to say he's our best defensive forward right now?

He's really come into his own in terms of baseline awareness and help defense. Made an excellent play for a steal in the second half yesterday.

They'll have to be iron men, but our (undersized) front court is suddenly a defensive strength. Maybe not quite at a 2013 level, but markedly improved from last season.

With MC going down I can see the light coming on for Roberson at the end of the year as opposed to next when I originally thought it would. The extended time will speed his growth up. Just going too fast on the offensive end right now, the skills are there he just needs to relax and I think he can and will. I always notice he shoots much better when we are up comfortably because the pressure is off. Love the guy on the defensive end and the boards though. If anybody has a light ready to go on it is him.

I said in the Game Thread, he reminds me of Dennis Rodman but with no personality.

Wow, glad I'm not the only one who thought that way. I didn't participate in the Game Thread - was watching the game on a delay - but I totally can see that. Not sure what it is about him, but there is something reminiscent of Rodman in his approach to rebounds.

My only concern with him is his feet after getting a rebound. Sometimes it seems like he's moving/bouncing a bit and I'm concerned he's going to pick up a travel or two because of it. He needs to figure out how to get those boards and come down with his feet set - like Rak.

AKA late 1980s non-weird Rodman, who was a very likable player.

So many guys wait until the ball hits the rim then react to get the rebound. One of the things that made Rodman special is he went after rebound with the shot still in the air. He seemed to know where it was going to come off the rim before even hit it. His rebounding anticipation level was off the charts.

Seems so many of our guys over the years are/were reaction guys and Roberson seems to be more of anticipation guy. I don't know that we have had anyone like him (rebounding-wise) since DC.

Sometimes I forget how strong Rodman was. He was never overly jacked but he was all corded muscle and seemed to bounce off of other guys like rubber.

Roberson shoots like he read a book on how to do it but has never actually tried it before.

I already picked on TR once in this thread so I don't want to overdo it, but I know exactly what you mean. When he has the ball on the offensive end, I feel like I'm watching a robot that was designed to play basketball, but they're still working out the kinks and he hasn't quite learned how to improvise on his own yet. I'm very confident that he'll figure things out and be a double-digit scorer for us as an upperclassmen.

He'd have had ten last night if he didn't do that - there was a late miss initially recorded as a Roberson rebound and a turnover but the scorer changed it to an FSU team rebound.

He came flying in and just couldn't stay inbounds on the baseline. I remember that. I was actually glad he thought better of trying to whip it back in and save it. At that point better it was a dead ball give back than a live ball turnover. I assume he will get better at this, I hope.
